Were they leaving exercise class?

If so, their teacher should be fired because they are obviously failing

I feel incredibly bad for this kid. If this was just him having suicidal thoughts and authorities intervening... Now his name has been plastered everywhere as a campus shooter.

Not going to read the rest of this thread but this is 100% correct. In addition, they have now numbed much of the student body to future, God forbid, real threats.

A huge teaching moment to other schools.

Well, except he threatened to hurt himself and anyone that got in his was. That is how it was called in to university police. From the charges I heard, he gets off light.

Best meme to come from today's events:

Even better, this sergeant teaches self defense classes at MSU (amongst many other things) and she is badass. Hard to tell in the picture but she's wearing some impressive heels.

We have an unhealthy situation in this country where guns are a right but access to health care (and subsequently mental health care) is not a right and often hard to obtain.

That was a fascinatingly quick shift between arbitrary definitions of rights. Guns are a right in this country because you can purchase them but healthcare is not a right in this country because no one is forced to give it to you.

For the record, rights have nothing to do with what country you are in. The exist as a natural extension of self-ownership. You don't have a right to own a gun or to be provided healthcare. You have a right to trade the product of your mind and body to other people for guns or for healthcare that they have produced with their minds and bodies, provided they are willing to make the trade.

If I have a right to healthcare, that means that the people using their minds and bodies to produce the healthcare I'm consuming don't have full ownership of their minds and bodies. If we eliminate the assumption of self-ownership, the entire concept of rights unravels immediately. At that point, we merely have wishlists.

They left off the line that says "Sergeant Rich is a certifiable badass." Although, I suppose they had already said as much in that bio.

I used to see her all the time at football games. She'd patrol the student section in the endzone.

During the week you'd see her riding around campus as a bike cop.
