A&M's silver medal DC would still have been best in SEC

Bud Foster almost got the nod at Texas A&M
Remember when LSU fans were saying all of our rumored potential DCs were pie in the sky, only for us to take their DC? Then LSU fans have to watch their team resort to Steele after getting rejected over and over again

Texas A&M had its sights set on Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster in December.
Foster told the Roanoke Times Wednesday that he was having regular conversations with Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin in anticipation of possibly taking the same post with the Aggies.
"The rumors were there, but they were real," Foster said. "... It was probably as close as I’ve ever been to leaving this place."

And LSU will still have a better defense

Y'all could've gotten Dick Lebeau and it wouldn't have made your D any better. Face it ags. When it comes to football, all the money in the world won't buy you some football players. The way I see it, the softness of that defense is an institutional problem. Your fan base is soft, your coach is soft (and from the looks of it getting softer), and your football players are soft.

Sumlins pitch
"These Tards pay me 5 mill a year to lose to LSU and get blanked by Bama, they gonna pay big $$$ for a mediocre top 80 D, please, please take the $$$ so I can keep mine"

I don't think some of you started following football until five years ago.
Traditionally, Texas A&M defense has been pretty stout.
I can recall a time not that long ago when our fans complained about our vanilla offenses, as compared to our slobber-knocking defenses.
Anyway, there's no inherent, systemic reason why defense is anemic at A&M; I think the pendulum simply shifted/overcompensated.
