This day in SEC history: 2016
Although LSU had an embarrassing loss in the SEC tournament this year, none was as embarrassing as last year's loss.
Featuring future #1 overall NBA draft pick Ben Simmons, the LSU Tigers came into the SEC tournament as the 4th ranked team. After defeating Tennessee in the quarterfinals, LSU matched up against Texas A&M in the semifinals of the tournament.
Although LSU fans are well experienced in watching their team not cross the 50, LSU would not cross 40 this day, falling to the Aggies by 33 points, 71-38. It was a loss so devastating, so demoralizing, that LSU literally quit playing basketball. They turned down an NIT tournament bid and the revenue that would come from playing so that they could properly sit at home and lick their wounds.
Once a proud and successful program, this surely was one of the most embarrassing displays of cowardliness in SEC history.
