True, but no one is mistaking whatever tradition ULM has for Alabama's. On the other hand, the OP correctly points out that, other than being in the SEC, Mississippi State is on the same level as Southern Miss.

Was on the same level, as USM used to have some good teams, back before most of you dudes were born.

MSU had a big defensive tackle that got a clothing discount and was suspended by the NCAA. Someone filed a lawsuit in a local court, and the court said that it was OK for the guy to play while the suit was heard.

The lawsuit was eventually won by the NCAA. The guy had played in a large number of games over a 2 year span while the suit was in the courts. The NCAA made MSU forfeit those games.

That's at least what the history of the matchup shows us.
