Ok so what would the SEC do if one of its teams received the death penalty? Seeing as how we now have divisions that could lead to an extremely unbalanced situation in the conference. I was watching pony excess and the thought just popped into my head how that would all be handled seeing as it affects at least 8 other schools in terms of their conference schedule.

And I believe the last time it was mentioned was in connection with Alabama.

If they did, it should be Bama or Ole Miss...

Bama was starring down the barrel of the Death Penalty.

In related news, SMU basketball just took a big hit. No post season play and a reduction in 9 scholarships.

Do you really believe the REC would ever allow Bama to get the death penalty?

bullshite! Bammer has earned it three times over and should have gotten it over that Albert Means crap.

Not to mention the fact every LOI signed there now comes with a set of keys and a fresh set of wheels and tires from Hot Wheelz in Mobile.

What SMU was doing was just crazy.

They were basically paying players out in the open, while on probation, telling the NCAA to frick themselves and Eric Dickerson was running over chumps.

Their big problem was like Alabama with Albert Means, they picked the wrong person to pay. In SMU's case, they paid the prima donna that thought he should be starting as a freshman, and when he didn't pan out, him and his momma ran to the NCAA.

And out of that, the SEC got Arkansas. Talk about a death penalty.

They won't hand out a death penalty again.

The question should be, which school has skirted the line closest to major sanctions? Could make the case for several teams. I'm not sure there is much evidence, but Ole Miss seems like my pick. Maybe Bama.

Regardless of the rhetoric that gets tossed about, no one will ever get the death penalty again. **IF** they did, it would be a team with almost no money-making potential. So, no Power 5 schools, etc.

The NCAA is about money. Don't let smoke screens regarding amateurism or purity of the sport fool you. It would be impossible to stop every booster of every school from cheating. Unless your school has nothing but poor boosters or an ultra-tiny class, you're going to have them doing things on the sly. The NCAA only goes after the offenders that spit in their face and give them a black eye, and even then it will always be something that they can come back from.

Imagine an Alabama, or Auburn, or Tennessee, or UGA, or LSU, or Texas A&M going an entire year without football stadium revenue. I don't even want to know what the cascade effects would be.

I could see the NCAA doing something like not allowing a team in the SEC to get their full share of SEC network revenue for a few years. They could do monetary type punishments, but TV bans and the death penalty will never again be used.
