Gene Stallings began his career as Bama head coach 0-3. But it all worked out well, 70-16 in 7 years with an undefeated season, SEC title, national championship and 3 appearances in the SEC title game. If not for Spurrier his record would've been even better.

Bebes survived Junction, Yaw Yaw got homesick for the swamp and left LSU in less than a week.

LSU hired a motherfricker who ran home before playing a fricking snap

He was garbage at A&M before being garbage in the pros. Alabama was the only sustained success he ever had.

I wouldn't say he was garbage at TAMU. He had some good seasons in the beginning and even beat Bama and Paul Bryant in the Cotton Bowl. But it didn't end well for him there, I'll agree on that point.

Yes, I watch most every LSU game as they are my second favorite team. And it's disappointing how bad they look. I was hoping Eaux would succeed. I don't think he is the same caliber coach as Stallings but just posted to show you guys that there is hope, even if it's minuscule.

Gene Stallings had two functioning brain cells. Not a fair comparison.

I'm too lazy to look it up but I'm pretty sure when he beat Bear and the famous picture was taken that was the only winning season he ever had as a head coach in either college or pros until Bama.

No comparison between the two. It's hopeless.

Stallings had 1 winning season in 7 years. He was not close to being ready to be a head coach when A&M hired him. Kudos to him for learning as he went.

I love it, I hope lsu hangs onto caveman for a few more seasons. Besides uga there isn't a more sanctimonious fanbase than lsu. Bottom dwelling for a few seasons may actually bring their egos into check.

I remember when Stallings was announced as Alabama's HC. Everyone was scratching their heads wondering why he was given the job, because he had a losing record. When he started 0-3, fans were irate. Seems I remember a loss to Brett Favre and Southern Miss, as well as, Florida and Spurrier. Bama won 7 of its next 9 games, beating Auburn, before getting stomped by a Schnellenberger coached Louisville in the bowl.
Stallings got the family back together, hiring many of the same coaches Bear had, dropped his voice a little to sound like Bear, and got everyone going in the same direction. Within 3 years, we had our first post-Bear natty.

stalling's had been a loser everywhere he coached before bama.

i suppose it's possible LSU caught "lightning in a bottle" with O.

i doubt it.

Gene Stallings looks like Vince Lombardi compared to Farmer Fran.

as for Gene Stallings, I wish him the best. Man is 100% class. If the best means........I want him peaceful. I hope he recovers and can enjoy life, but my prayers are with him, Miss Ruth Ann and the family.
