5 major conference champions and 1 wild card.

This is complicated, playoff committee.

If after 13 games (12 regular season plus a conference championship) you're only ranked 6th I'm not sure you still deserve a shot. The teams currently ranked 5th and 6th both have 2 losses...sorry but if you lose twice in 13 games I don't think you deserve to play for it all.

4 is fine, although I have my reservations about how we arrive at the 4.

The most fair playoff scenario is one where the winners of each conference automatically get it. Since there are 5 major conferences, a 6 team playoff would give ALL teams at least a chance to be that 6th team.

It's the best scenario.

So dumb. Not all conferences are created equal. The SEC could conceivably field a 3 loss Champion that got buttfricked by an ACC team that isn't playing in their conference championship the week prior. This "only conference champions" narrative is stupid. Put the best teams in the playoff. 6 teams is fine. 5 conference champs and a wildcard is stupid.

Notre Dame isn't in a conference. The big 12 doesn't play a conference championship game. There isn't an equal playing field amongst the conferences, or even the divisions for that matter.

black and white rules like this are retarded, considering if this was the system we could potentially see an unranked VT or a 15th ranked UF pull some upsets this weekend and get an auto-bid. That's what makes the CFB regular season so much better than any professional sport, every game is supposed to matter. If you can slog your way thorugh a 7-5 regular season, then get lucky and knock off someone in your title game and make the playoffs...what was the point of the regular season?

So what?

That shouldn't matter. I mean, in baseball not all divisions are created equal. Yet, oftentimes a team from a "weaker division" will win the World Series.

Why should college football be any different?

Nah.

Playoff is to determine the top team, not the top 5.

frick off, loser.

Because college football isn't a 162 game season that sees you play everyone in the power 5. Don't be dense, that's not even apples to oranges, that's like apples to manatees

Look at 2011. The best team in the country would've been the wildcard. The #9 and #14 teams would've been in the playoffs with 2 and 3 losses respectively while one loss teams in tougher conferences got to sit at home

Then everyone will bitch because it will be subjective as to who gets a bye.

People will bitch no matter what, so let's keep it at 4.

Bama fans will be so pissed when the playoff committee evenutually embraces this playoff structure.

It'll piss them off because it'll be the most fair and Bama isn't interested in a fair structure.

Why not just go to 8. If you're a top 2 team you shouldn't have any issue with #7 or #8. Same timeframe for the playoffs.

Byes are too big of an advantage for CFB.

Idiot fans just want it expanded so their undeserving team can get in.

Stop ruining the college football regular season.

If you keep expanding it the regular season will be meaningless. You'll have 2-3 loss teams in the playoffs every year.

Exclusivity is a GOOD thing.

Byes are something you earn, not just randomly given.

Finishing 1/2 should be significantly rewarded.

In a true playoff, rankings wouldn't mean shite.

8 teams, 8 conference champions. 5 P5 champions, 3 at large lesser conference champions based on SOS.

Simple, fair, inclusive, entertaining - and maintains the importance of conference championships.

It's too much. If they are really the best then facing #1 or #2 should be nbd.

Exactly. Expanding the playoff ruins the regular season, which is the best in sports. While we're at it, let's force The Masters to include the the winner of the Sunday morning dogfight from a local club.
