UT had one with Henderson and Haynesworth

Probably the best college DT tandem ever

If we're talking history then 1938-1939 Vols had 17 straight shutouts. The 39 team was the last CFB in history to not allow a single point throughout the entire regular season.

"From the second quarter of a game against LSU on Oct. 29, 1938 until the second quarter of the Rose Bowl the following season on Jan. 1, 1940, the Volunteers allowed exactly zero points. If shutting an opponent out for an entire regular season is mind-boggling, the chances of a team doing it for a season and a half are just as slim."

I did not say they were the best. But I have them up because that defensive line was all over the place. I watched a DE of their's (Mingo I think) run down Lamichael James from behind after disengaging his man in front.

Yeah, and Mingo was always a natural at OLB. The '03 and '07 lines were better.

The '11 D was awesome largely because of the secondary. The DL was no slouch unit, mind you, but they were not the strength of that team.

I don't think even the haterest of haters of the Vols could deny this absolute fact.

I'd actually put UT's all time line (Reggie White, John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth, and Doug Atkins) over pretty much every other program in the country. And it's not even close.

DL U?

DL GOAT (and an incredible person; I don't think the NFL could tolerate someone like him today)

The 03 defensive line was significantly better than the 11 defensive line for LSU.

Not sure about just linemen, but 92 Bama, one of the best defenses I have seen play (as a group).

UGA had some major talent in the late '90s - Seymour and Stroud clogging up the middle and Witherspoon, Boss Bailey and Orantes Grant containing the edges. But they didn't play up to their potential.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Tennessee have Shaun Ellis, John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth and Will Overstreet (all first round picks except Overstreet)?

Sidenote, Louisiana Tech's Willie Roaf dominated the 1992 Alabama defense.

Well, he would be a future hall of fame lineman. But Alabama won that game 13-0.

Very true. That being said, Louisiana Tech had some success against Alabama towards the end of the 90's. I believe they beat them the last two times they played.

Roaf was a phenomenal Saint and is a great, kind man. One of my all-time favorite Saints.

Where have you been? This board has not distinguished between the two since Mark Ingrams rookie season. I'm sure you have been guilty of this as well with your flaming.
