Niners safety Eric Reid is readying to play another season, but he acknowledged Tuesday that he has given some thought to leaving the NFL because of the three concussions he suffered in his first two seasons.
“Everybody evaluates their own situation as far as playing this game,” Reid said. “I’ve evaluated mine and I’ve decided I still want to play.”

Reid had two concussions in the first nine games of his rookie season, but didn’t miss a game. He suffered his third last year in the first quarter of a Dec. 20 loss to the Chargers. He said he was medically cleared to play in the regular-season finale against Arizona, but sat out because the 49ers had been eliminated from postseason contention.
“I just decided it wasn’t worth possibly getting another concussion for a game that wouldn’t advance us,” Reid said. “So I decided to sit that one out.”

Britney Griner is considering retiring from the WNBA due to uncontrollable bleeding a few days each month.

Translation: All the rest of these motherfrickers have left me stranded in San Fran and I'm getting the hell out of here.

I wouldn't blame him if he did. Health matters more than anything.

Loved the way this kid plays the game. Wish him the best no matter what he does.

He chose LSU over Stanford...pretty sure he was an engineering major? I am sure he was very smart with the contract he has.
He'll be just fine with whatever he decides to do

He's had 3 concussions in 2 years in the NFL and has a family of his own. I'd definitely consider retirement. He'll be very successful after football whenever it is.

How does saying "I evaluated my situation" suddenly = thought about retiring.
I think you may start to see more guys retire who just no longer want to play any more but they will blame it on concussions and the media will say how courageous they were to retire.

2 Niners have already done so, including Patrick Willis, the LSU Tiger hunter.

I think he eventually switched that major.

We used to laugh at ole Patrick when he played against LSU. Always out of position and alligator-arming it.

If you are at the point where you are considering retiring due to head injuries, you should retire.
