We should have offered Clemson

No, that would have just created that many more intolerable schedule bitching threads from LSU fans.

USC was a much better addition than FSU would have been. Glad it happened.

Actually ... NC St and VA Tech would be the best fits culturally. UNC and UVA would be worse than Mizzou in terms of sheer yankeeness. WVA is a cultural misfit no matter where they go.

WVU and VT are practically the same. Very similar regions with rabid fanbases that aren't massive. Both have played in the big game but haven't won it yet. One of the more entertaining rivalries in football too.

A&M and Texas were threatened with retaliation by state legislators (many of whom were alumni of other Texas schools that would be left out in the cold if the SWC dissolved) if we left. FSU declined because Bowden wanted an easier path to the natty. So the SEC settled for Arkansas and SC.

Good God the revisionist history sweeping this country right now is criminal.

We are all doomed.

Wait ... why?

Are you claiming A&M was offered before SCAR? We all realize FSU was, indeed ... but are you claiming A&M was offered?

That seems like a bit of revisionist history IMHO.

Of course.

It wasn't always the case either because we actually lobbied for FSU to join going back to the 70s. Dooley actually wanted GT back in the conference when he was UGA's AD.

Perhaps, but at least UNC and UVA retain some of the trappings of southern genteel society. Missouri doesn't even pretend.

The incest and consumption of meth in that place (ed. West Virginia) would make even Mississippi blush. Bringing them in would just fully embrace the stereotype and completely negate what Florida brings to the table.

Plus they'd probably rape and murder every Missouri fan who came to their stadium.
