You know ... I cannot remember. For some reason I thought it was Georgia then Arkansas for us, but I may be wrong.

I remember we got stuck opening with Georgia for some time I think.

Wait ... why?

Are you claiming A&M was offered before SCAR? We all realize FSU was, indeed ... but are you claiming A&M was offered?

That seems like a bit of revisionist history IMHO.

I though UF, UK, and UGA had a pact to keep FSU, Louisvlile, and Ga Tech out of the SEC at that time.

:kige:

Big 12 is the best place for them right now, would be fun if they ran the table this year, but SEC does not need couch burners.

FSU was invited but Bobby Bowden was skerred. SCAR was the second choice after FSU ... we were not skerred.

Ga Tech was never considered ... too much bad blood there. Once you walk out the door it's over. Besides, they were ACC bound and everyone knew it - Bobby Cremona wanted in the ACC and he had big power there at the time.

Louisville was never considered an option and Kentucky would never allow that - they'd bring nothing to the table.

UF, KY, UGA and SCAR will always cabal against FSU, UL, Ga Tech and Clemson.

The incest and consumption of meth in that place would make even Mississippi blush. Bringing them in would just fully embrace the stereotype and completely negate what Florida brings to the table.

Plus they'd probably rape and murder every Missouri fan who came to their stadium.

A&M and Texas were threatened with retaliation by state legislators (many of whom were alumni of other Texas schools that would be left out in the cold if the SWC dissolved) if we left. FSU declined because Bowden wanted an easier path to the natty. So the SEC settled for Arkansas and SC.

Hell no.

That's what I'm screaming, too. That state is one big heroin and meth lab. It's a sad sad place.

That was a great day. We had been independent all my life. Finally had a confetence, confetence pride, other teams to pull for that affected our season directly. It also ended up being the best and richest confetence ever. I didnt know much about the SEC but i found out quick that losing was not an option for any team in the league and they wanted to win at all cost. We were like a fish out of water for 10 years playing catch up in the arms race. I had heard about our ACC days and we still played mostly ACC teams. Playing them guys we had the bigger stadium bjt once in the SEC we were about 8th in stadium size.
