2001-2005 the SEC was the best conference and treated as the worst

2001 Tennessee and Florida were 2 of the top 3 teams in the country but played in the best conference in the country. They weren't unfairly left out but would've smoked either Miami While Nebraska, Colorado and Oregon stood no chance
2002 it was just down a little
2003 LSU was far and away the best team. USC got screwed but LSU was treated like it was the party crasher going in, then everyone pretended like OU didn't belong, which was quickly forgotten because...
2004 Auburn getting left out was a joke. They lost to USC a few years earlier when caddy and Campbell were green but they deserved to go over OU. The previous year should've been considered. It was, but incorrectly. "USC and OU are the teams we wanted last year" no they weren't.
2005 was a deep year for the SEC, had Tyrone prothrombin not been injured, I think bama may have been in the title game or had the opportunity to get screwed out of the title game. USC and Texas was the right choice given the format, but I'd take LSU and Alabama over either of them. Katrina and Rita was the mvp of the Tennessee/LSU game IMO
Long story short, bama at 4 shows how different the times are. It used to be frustrating as shite to see the sec get left out or dismissed while going through a physical conference. Yes USC could beat anyone on a given week but they couldn't have withstood the week to week brutality. They were getting pats on the back for giving up 500 yards to Oregon state or barely beating Stanford. Keep in mind I loved those USC teams, but the reality was the sec was in the midst of a decade in which they were far and away the best conference
People really thought Florida should've been left out in 2006 in favor of a Michigan/OSU rematch. Thankfully they beat the shite out of them, and they're no longer the dominant physical conference they were then, but frick anyone complaining about sec dick sucking because they were looked over during some of their best years
LONG STORY SHORT: Bama at 4, It's not right, but frick everyone else whining about it

Nobody was beating Miami in 2001.

Ohio state beat them the next year..granted they lost 32 first rounders but they reloaded

My memory might be faded and I have no metric to back me up here, but I think the SEC was damn strong that year. Maybe as strong as any other year in recent memory.
UF, LSU, or UT might not have beaten Miami...but that doesn't discount how good the SEC was at the top that year.

Yep, LSU had a rush defense at least on par with Bama's this year... held Cadillac and Ronine Brown to under 50 yards combined. They ended up crushing a Heisman-winning QB as well. Had playmakers on offense in Michael Clayton and Skyler Green as well.

I like how Georgia won the SEC championship 2 of those years, and your post mentions them zero times.

LSU was really good but they were a depth team not a top dog. Tennessee was better but it just wasn't their day. Stall lworth worked those corners but his qb couldn't hit him. Henderson and haynesworth shut down the runningback but not the running quarterback they didn't prepare for
If they hadn't knocked out davey, I think they'd have won

Is this about your LSU insecurities?

2003 and 2005 they were awesome and overlooked. I didn't mention them for 2003 because it was LSU clearly and they smoked them in Atlanta

2001 was alright. lsu won the sec and they were pretty mediocre

I have a lot of respect for LSU, but auburn was the one who was royally screwed

Yeah, but the conference as a whole was down. I'm not saying Georgia couldn't have beaten anyone, they could but Ohio state and Miami were undefeated. I didn't mention them, my bad.

smoking illinois in the sugar bowl and beating Tennessee mad me feel otherwise
They weren't the best team in the sec, but that core group of davey, Reed and toefield was dangerous enough to beat anyone

but I'd take LSU and Alabama over either of them
This is why I hate SEC homers. SEC was the most dominate and greatest conference between '06 and '12. Now it is still the best conference top to bottom, but there are plenty of other schools that could come in and compete.
Just look at how A&M and Missouri have handled coming in. In 2009, we would have all laughed at either of them winning more than a couple SEC games much less one of them making an SEC championship.

And they didn't play anyone to get there
USC's best win was against an overrated ND team. Texas played OU and no one else

The sec was the best conference before ESPN took notice, just like they get their dick sucked now and aren't the best conference in football or at the very least as good as their reputation
A lot of you were late to the party

2001 U was loaded with NFL talent and their second team was right there too.
LSU beat that Tenn team who beat that fla team. LSU's defense was bad that year but offensively at the end of the year were as hot as any team in the country. 01 lsu laid foundation for 03
Other than that I agree with everything else.
Difference between SEC is the talent on D and the athletes Spurrier made SEC defensive coordinators put on D to catch up to his offensive system.

Those were the two most talented teams that year and both deserved to play. To argue otherwise is retarded.
