Now there is a real possibility of 2 B10 teams in the playoff, and neither of them won their conference.

And the only solution presented is to add more teams?

I'm not saying dump the playoff, but perhaps the method of choosing the teams needs to be scrapped/changed.

The BCS formula was not that bad. A 4 team playoff has always made sense. Probably would have made more sense to just use the formula to get the top 4 teams.

I have no problem with the 4 best teams, regardless of whether they win their conference or not, getting in, but, the hypocrisy of the B1G people now is amazing to me. Can't be two SEC teams...until it's them. Now they're pushing for 3!

Nope, B1G got just wanted in changing the discussion by scrapping the BCS where they were headed to obscurity. Now we have a stacked committee to ensure the B1G is back in play. I hope they all burn in hell but the Devil is alive and well living in Delany's body.

Burn it down, burn it all down, ROLL TIDE!

Exactly.

Clemson will win (hopefully) and then it becomes the B1G's problem.

I have to imagine they have 12 members calling Delany and telling him the champion needs to be in the playoff.

8 team playoff is the way to go. The power five conference champs and three at large teams

This is the correct answer.

And then it will be 12 w/ byes.

Then it will be 16.

Adding teams won't fix the problem. That's like adding a lane to a road, in lieu of fixing the potholes.

If this happens, I'd like for the teams to be ordered by rank, rather than just have the at large teams as the bottom three.

There should be a rule that you can't be a top 4 seed unless you win your conference.

You shouldn't be rewarded with a weaker opponent

The BCS formula sucks.

Stop with that. Thank god it did because the four team playoff is right and good

The problem many people had with the BCS is that the computer formulas were complicated and not transparent/well-understood and there were significant discrepancies among them. Even so, the old BCS would most likely produce the same results as the commitee will tomorrow.

If Bama and Clemson win today, which is very likely, the final rankings will most likely be:

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Washington

This is the way to go. It means more teams, which means more football. Who's against more football? It would not diminish the regular season because you must still win your conference to be guaranteed a spot. The 3 at large are a crapshoot. You don't think rivalry games will still be important? It would be even more important with more on the line. This is not the NBA where 1/3 make the playoffs or college basketball where you have 64 teams. For CFB your talking about just 6% would make the final 8. The regular season would still mean someting and yes there will still be teams left out which makes it always intriguing.

What I'd really like to see is a 6 team playoff first where the top 2 teams get a bye the first week. In this scenario I think you choose the 5 Power 5 Championship winners and only 1 at large. If you don't win your conference championship, you have no argument. Each conference chooses their representative, period.

Let me add that the conference championship game is basically a playoff game. If you lose that game, you should be out anyway. Even in a case like this year with Bama. If Bama was to lose to UF (I don't see how), then they should be out of the playoff. They still would end up in the Sugar Bowl, which is and should be a great accomplishment. You have to win your conference. This would bring some credibility back to the bowl games too. Imagine a Bama/OSU Sugar Bowl? That might be bigger than the playoff games???

You're just making ridiculous speculation. The fact that we went this long with out a playoff shows how out of touch FBS has been

People need to decide if the best teams play or the conference champs should play. They are never the same.

However, folks need to decide if they want conference champs or the best 4. It's why the NCAA basketball tourney expanded. Conference champs weren't the best teams always.
