Great Sugar Bowl. Do you not know the rules back then?

Auburn never cared about rules, see the 2010 hire.

I'll inform our SID that despite the major poll championship Bama should be considered retroactive non Champions based on this thread

1973 was also the year Bama started a record 9 game Iron Bowl winning streak.

Of course, bama lost.

I only care about the rules of true competition, pride, and common sense.

When you lose to the champ, don't pretend you're the champ. Regardless of who says otherwise.

Imagine if Trevor Berbick were walking around with a championship belt and flying banners outside his house after getting beat senseless by Mike Tyson.

It might have been the UPN's fault for giving out the title early, that's why they changed it once called on it. The AP used to do the same thing before then as well even though they wised up a decade before the coaches'. All I know is that it isn't my fault, I was negative 3 and nobody asked me.

Hey..farmer brown ... Please get down off your thresher and tell me what you think of 1964? Alabama - AP and UPI champ, but lost to Texas in Orange Bowl, though the entire nation saw Joe Namath score twice on QB sneaks, marked short both times.

I guess the entire US press, UPI and AP should have checked with you about how the vote for NC should be taken. You then could have set everyone straight... and I wonder about "winning a NC" when your team is on probation for theft, cheating, grand larceny and manslaughter, and cannot go to a bowl. An example... whoever won a NC in 1957.

haters slam Bama for claiming the 1973 title that they were given BEFORE getting beat in a bowl game...and haters slam Ole Miss for claiming the 1960 title AFTER the sugar bowl curb stomping(21-0)in a rematch with the team that beat them in the regular season on a fluke punt return , while the "#1" team (Minnesota) got destroyed in the rose bowl for their 2nd loss...haters gonna hate I reckon.

Not our fault bowl games were basically considered exhibition games for about 50 years.

The NCAA didn't even count them in the stats till the late 90's or something.

Everyone played under the same system.

on a fluke punt return

Cannon broke seven tackles on that return.

And Minnesota would have destroyed Ole Miss that year.

Minnesota would not have scored on Ole Miss that year. Only one offensive touchdown was scored on that defense. the other 2 touchdowns were on punt returns. 21 total points given up all season.
