This point isn't lost on me. I've mentioned this several times on the team board. The running game was supposed to open up the pass. When the running game wasn't there, neither was the passing game. So if we weren't bullying anybody, we were getting hammered at every facet offensively. If we can ever achieve a balance, our rushing game will have a chance against the better teams because they will be more on their heels..

He, like LSU's backs, ran for a bunch of yards against teams that couldn't tackle. 123 (6.2 YPA) vs Texas A&M (66th YPA against) 169 (4.3 YPA) vs Mississippi State (80th YPA against) 192 (7.1 YPA) vs Arkansas (126th YPA against) 236 (7.9 YPA) vs Ole Miss (120th YPA against) 173 (6.9 YPA) vs Vanderbilt (71st YPA against) 101 (4.2 YPA) vs Oklahoma (68th YPA against) 61 (3.6 YPA) vs LSU (8th YPA against) 17 (1.4 YPA) vs Alabama (1st YPA against)
At the point of the season where AU played LSU, they were still thinking of Pettway as a Fullback converted to RB. In the Bama Game, AU did not have a QB that threw for over 50 yards, plus Pettway was still hurt. The OU Game showed how good he was. They knew he was getting the ball, yet he still ran for 100 yards.

Agree. I think Auburn has a chance to be a pretty damn good offense next year. Stidham's floor is being above average, and if he grasps the offense and if Lindsey isn't an idiot then you guys will move the ball.

He averaged 4.2 YPA against a middle of the pack defense.

I do not care if it was against OMs Defense. When a team knows you can not pass, stopping the run is not hard.

Auburn has gone to the title game twice this decade. They went undefeated in '04 and got snubbed for the title appearance. They went undefeated again in '93 and didn't win the NC because of their sanctions. Auburn has proved they can handle the SEC. I think the problem is nobody in the media seems to have any faith anymore that Malzahn is the coach to take them to the playoffs.
Louisville and Oklahoma State on the other hand? All they have to do is win one or two hard games and then stop shooting themselves in the foot. I feel Louisville under Petrino will eventually break through and get to the playoffs.

Not in the last 4 games of the year. When Pettway had any pass support, he punished Defenses. The injury in the Vandy Game took the pass and the run away from AU

That is fine but that isn't what I had a disagreement with, there are many bad defenses that knew the run was coming and still couldn't do anything. Maybe you were just using some hyperbole which I get.

And all of those defenses were bad.
So, maybe it was having a passing game. Maybe it was that Arkansas and Ole Miss couldn't stop anybody from running the ball.

Yea, Arkansas knew Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU and Auburn were going to run the ball.
Didn't seem to help much, which kind of goes in opposite of the point being disputed.

If your offense scores points but your defense doesn't stop the other team from scoring, what group didn't do their job?
Do you even understand football at all?
