I'd say theres a difference between busts and idiots. Guys like Perrilloux and Crowell were good when they played, they were just dumbasses.

Tennessee has had many 5 star busts. That's not including the high 4 star guys that were busts (Andrew Mathis, Slick Shelley, Daniel Brooks, etc)

2002
DE Mondre Dickerson
RB Gerald Riggs Jr
DE Johnathon Mapu
OT Brandon Jeffries
WR James Banks

2006
DE Walter Fisher

2007
LB Chris Donald
WR Kenny O'Neal
DB Brent Vinson

Chris Donald may be the biggest 5 star bust of all time. Kid could barely get on the field at UT outside ST, transfers to DII UT Chattanooga, and then quits football entirely. Feel bad for the kid. Met him through a friend of mine from his hometown and seemed like a really nice guy, just an incredibly misevaluated player.

I can't tell you how bad I wanted him, and IIRC UGA and bama were his final 2. I thought he was a sure fire, can't miss OT. What the heck happened to that guy? I don't remember hearing a word about him after he signed.

I'd say almost the entire top 18 for the class of 2007 from jimmy clausen who was supposed to be the LeBron of football to Chris Donald were all vastly over rated.

#1
Jimmy Clausen QB
Westlake Village, CAOaks Christian
Called a “10-year prospect” by many who cover California high school football, Clausen has put up gaudy statistics and won a state championship as a senior. What gets lost with all the talk of leading Notre Dame to the promised land and 60-plus touchdowns in a season, is that Clausen has serious football tools to back up the hype. He has a strong arm, an extremely quick release and razor sharp accuracy. He’s got excellent size and a good frame for a college or pro quarterback. His presence in the pocket and the feel he has for the game are very advanced for a high school player. You combine that with his physical tools and it’s obvious that he’s special.
5 stars 6'3" 200 Notre Dame

#2
Joe McKnight RB
River Ridge, LAJohn Curtis
Scores touchdowns in multiple ways and is special with the ball in his hands.
5 stars 6'1" 193 USC

#3
Eric Berry DB
Fairburn, GACreekside
Has all the tools to develop into an elite college cornerback.
5 stars 5'11" 194 Tennessee

#4
Ryan Mallett QB
Texarkana, TXTexas
One of the biggest arms in the country has people talking NFL potential already.
5 stars 6'6" 235 Michigan

#5
Carlos Dunlap DE
North Charleston, SCFort Dorchester
Does uncanny things on the football field for a player his size.
5 stars 6'7" 260 Florida

#6
Everson Griffen DE
Avondale, AZAgua Fria
The highest ranked player ever from Arizona in the 10-year history of Rivals.com.
5 stars 6'4" 266 USC

#7
Marvin Austin DT
Washington, DCBallou
The nation's top defensive tackle boasts rare agility and quickness.
5 stars 6'2" 291 North Carolina

#8
Ronald Johnson WR
Muskegon, MIMuskegon
Big long-term potential as a wide receiver, but is just as good at cornerback.
5 stars 6'0" 177 USC

#9
Torrey Davis DT
Seffner, FLArmwood
Superior quickness and knack for the big play make him dominant.
5 stars 6'5" 290 Florida

#10
Josh Oglesby OL
Milwaukee, WISt. Frances
Eats defensive linemen and linebackers for lunch with his 6-7, 315-pound frame.
5 stars 6'7" 315 Wisconsin

#11
Chris Galippo LB
Anaheim, CAServite
Do-it-all linebacker plays for one of California’s best high school programs.
5 stars 6'3" 235 USC

#12
James Wilson OL
Ponte Vedra, FLNease
Great feet and strength make him a dominant player.
5 stars 6'4" 308 Florida

#13
Terrance Toliver WR
Hempstead, TXHempstead
Still the most dominating receiver in Texas.
5 stars 6'4" 185 LSU

Didn't read the thread, but our two glaring ommisions are BJ Scott and Tyler Love. Scott had the talent but couldn't learn the intricacies of the corner spot. Alonzo Lawrence is another one in the same boat as Scott

He graduated and gave up football after his junior year with 2 NC rings.

He came in the class of 2008, medical reshirt for his freshman year after playing one game and getting hurt. He was a backup OT in his Redshirt freshman year. Played a few games the next two years hurt.

He played in six games in 2009, five in 2010, and two last season, against Kent State and Tennessee, despite another chronic problem.

“I have a damaged neck, a little banged-up neck, bad L4,” Love said. “I have a little crack in that. I think I’ve had it for like a year-and-a-half, but I found out after the national championship game.
