Really didn't man.. I thought Mullen had the potential to get us to around like maybe #6 eventually.. but never imagined being #1 & especially for this long.

UGA became #1 on Nov.10 1980, the last regular season poll was Dec. 8th., 5 weeks. We finished it out on Jan. 1 1981 with a win over Notre Dame...

Do you really count mid-season? Seems like you have to finish that way to count it

Yes, in a miserable game (wasn't on TV, listened on the radio). We were ranked #1 for all one poll I believe (much like Tennessee a few years ago).

9-0 and ranked #1 after our 12/23/02 win over Morehead State. Then proceeded to go 8-12 the last 20 and lose in the 1st round of NCAA's to Indiana.

Peak Gottfried.

Bama has been ranked #1 at some point in each of the previous 6 seasons, with a chance this year to make it 7 consecutive years with that ranking at some point in the season. My favorite time to hold that ranking is the day after the title game.

2002, you don't remember because we were only there for literally one poll.

We then finished 17-12 and lost in the first round to Indiana.

Ironically the year we went to the Elite 8 (the next season) we were a bubble team and started the year 8-4, finished the regular season 16-11 and squeaked into the NCAA's because we played a murders row of a schedule.
