Do you think hiring Aranda will help Orgeron bring LSU back to being a power on the D-line again?
Also, do you think that the lofty projections for A&M's D-line is just coincidence or is he (Chavis) really that good.

Steele was awful, Aranda is a huge upgrade. Coach O made the DL much better last year than the year before, I expect only better this year returning almost everyone sans a hurt LaCouture and adding a beast like Valentine. It's not a front anyone is wanting to go up against anymore. Good experienced depth plus a ridiculously good starting 3. Throw Key in there as the rush OLB and it's a scary unit. The recruiting class of Lawrence, Alexander and Logan is 3 huge beasts for the DL in the future too. Roddy could move back to DL as well, Miles is playing with his dumb huge OL as TE role right now with Roddy.
Chavis doesnt coach the DL, that's some other guy at A&M, easy job when you have Garrett and Hall as your ends, although the question for them is really in the middle. How much will Mack step up?

I think Kevin Steele being our DC hurt more than losing Chavis. But I sacrifice last year because this year I would take our DC over Chavis any day of the week.
Garrett is the best DE in football. When you have a talent like that, it's not hard to create matchups for other players on the DL

Its was all part of sly Les Miles plan to unload Chavis to get an upgrade like Aranda and O. Our DLine will be back this year
AtM is stoked to be in the top 50 from dead last so good for them but thats about what their ceiling is

Not an LSU fan so I haven't kept too close of an eye on it, but from what I've seen and read on him, guy is a hell of a coach. I think LSU's defense will be improved under him

They will dominate in OOC play.
SEC teams will still run down their throat.

Les wanted Aranda last year, but the AD didn't get it done. We ended up with Steele.

Losing Chavis was a step back. Overall I think the Aranda hire will prove to be more beneficial than keeping Chavis.

According to New Orleans newspapers Miles was in shock when he found out Chavis was leaving.

Apparently Garrett is now good according to LSU fans in this thread, but previously he was not good

He sure was shocked that his buddy Chavis would downgrade to program like AtM

He's a great pass rusher, but still definitely struggles against the run.

There were two main issues with A&M's defensive tackles last year, talent and coaching.
Coaching - Mark Hagen, Mark Snyder's failed linebacker coach was moved to defensive tackles and retained for the sole purpose of "landing Malik Jefferson". You see how well that worked. So he ended up underperforming in all aspects and "taking a better job" at Indiana. We expect David Turner to perform better.
Talent - While Alonzo Williams and Julien Obioha (playing out of position) were hard workers, they are not Daylon Mack, Kingsley Keke, or Zaycovan Henderson. Hopefully we've seen the last of Hardreck Walker, as the development of T.D. Moton pushes him into obscurity once again.
