Georgia's Mark Richt is the only coach on the new NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee, which was announced Friday.

The committee is the overarching clearinghouse on all Division I football issues. Its chairman is Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, and its recommendations will be handed up to the newly reconstructed NCAA Council.

As one of its first duties, the committee is expected to consider conference title game deregulation CBSSports.com reported earlier this month.

The 12-person committee was created out of NCAA reform that creates more streamlined governance. Example: The new committee makes it unlikely that Alabama's Nick Saban and Arkansas' Bret Bielema could have such influence on the rules-making process that they did in 2014. The NCAA rules committee is one of those that will report to the oversight committee.

Because of its power and reach, the new group might as well be considered a de facto competition committee.

Richt is one of seven non-council members named to the committee. One athlete will be named at a later date. The 55-year old Richt is one of the most respected coaches in the game. He has won 136 games in 14 seasons, including two SEC titles (2002, 2005).

Did the author mean to say underachieving since Richt is involved?

Good.

Keep Saban and bielema from trying to change rules to help their style of play with the guise of safety
