Athens is booming with new construction. Apart from UGA, here's what's going on around town.

The Falls of Oconee
8861 Macon Highway

Sq Feet: 26,500

New construction retail development across the street from the new Athens Ridge Student Townhome Development with 784 beds. Many unique opportunities exist for this property. It is located on the major thoroughfare between Athens and Oconee County. The center will attract clientele from UGA, UNG, Athens Academy, and the surrounding upscale residential communities of Oconee County and Athens, specifically Crystal Hills and Five Points.

shite, they haven't even sold all the parcels at the Oconee Connector yet.

I'm going to be uber pissed if the boom of cheap student housing keeps on buying up prime real estate downtown. That shite needs to change ASAP

Technically, the Falls of Oconee is retail only.

This thing is squandering all sorts of opportunity for that land. I'd take the mini-Walmart proposal back over this thing anytime.

Oh, I know. And I don't mind some of the development out there. But this downtown stuff is getting out of hand.

No it's not. There's going to be 80,000 square feet worth of office and retail space with this project. Landmark Properties CEO was trying to get a grocery store built on the land as well, but it fell through.

Last I'd heard, this new development proposal was going to screw with the firefly trail and I'm not cool with that.

Now Georgia Heights I'm done with. It's a nice-looking building geared toward young professionals and in-town living. It should also bring in some quality retail and food options.

I'm anxiously waiting for what's going where the old Sweet Peppers was. It's been vacant for months now

Dammit ya'll are making me want to come home! I sold my business in Athens in 2007 but there has always been a lot or work to bid on in ACC. AT my age the thought of a bunch of work to bid on is more exciting than all of the coeds on Milledge Avenue the first pretty days of spring....well, almost!

god I miss Athens.

I couldn't help but notice that a lot of the renderings look exactly like recent developments here in Tallahassee near the school/stadium

Athens turning into Gainesville FL.

You would have thought they learned their lesson on the west side.

Quick question .... what "young professionals" are going to live in those apartments you say they are going to live in?
