-Ramsey/Bauta/Park all looked capable of leading this team. Ramsey and Park are gifted in throwing the deep ball but Bauta showed more accuracy with the short to medium throws
-Lo Carter will be almost unstoppable next season
-We already know what Brendan Douglas has given to this team the past 2 seasons but AJ Turman looks to be a faster version of Douglas. Great to have 5 capable running backs in the SEC
-Isaiah Mckenzie showed great separation on his long touchdown. He's worked on his hands all offseason and I believe he will be a huge threat for our offense
-Wynn looked good at center with protections and run blocking. The high snaps are understandable with learning a new position and will be fixed with more reps.
-Tramel Terry and Malcolm Parrish were laying the WOOD
-I feel really good about our inside linebacker depth. Kimbrough and Carter looked good but Natrez Patrick looked great for an early enrollee FR. Ganus showed flashes as well
-Run defense overall looked stout. Mayes, DeLoach, and Bailey played well. Ledbetter made some plays out there and looked SEC ready physically.
-JSW didn't look like himself out there. Misjudged several long passes that were very catchable. We need him to step up big time with our lack of depth at WR and Malcolm being injury prone.
-Our linebacker corps could be the deepest I've seen in a long time. Floyd, LoCarter, Jenkins, Amaechi, Bellamy, Kimbrough, Reggie Carter, Ganus, Patrick, and Rankin
-Keyon Brown looked quick and powerful at DE

This could be the best defense we've had since the ungodly 2003 unit. I couldn't even fathom being a QB on 3rd and long against this group. Lorenzo Carter looks like he should be in the NFL right now. He hit Douglas and drove him backwards once. Douglas is a strong guy and doesn't get driven backwards by one tackler.
I noticed the same thing about the DBs. Those guys were hitting today. Parrish flattened Mitchell on that slant, which unfortunately looked like it may have resulted in a shoulder injury for Mitchell.
Jordan Davis looked good today. He's a sleeper to have a big season under Schottenheimer.
Bauta had nice numbers, but his situational awareness wasn't good. On the last 4th and 8 play with :20 or so left down by a TD, he threw a one yard check down pass to Douglas. Maybe I think that kind of stuff is a bigger deal than other people do.
The pass rush needs to be mentioned a second time because it was awesome. That was a good offensive line they repeatedly smoked today. Add Floyd and Trent Thompson and it'll be even better somehow.
That throw Ramsey made to Davis was the kind of throw that few human beings on this planet can make. He hit Davis in stride from 50 yards away from left hash to right sideline.
But I wasn't really impressed with any of the QBs. I am very concerned about the position headed into the season. This team should be able to roll out of bed and win 8 games, but it'll be QB play that truly determines the fate of this season. If we were to get into a shootout or have to execute a two minute drill, I wouldn't be really confident right now.

Were you saving that one?

.... I thought some guys played OK, but I didn't take a whole lot away from what I saw. QB & DT were the big questions coming in & they are still big questions...
Looks like we should be OK at WR & ILB unless we have a rash of injuries, looks like we need a punter, but overall a pretty good scrimmage....

Parrish, Chuks, Jordan, Patrick, Ledbetter looked good.
Next few years could be special on defense considering the class coming in and the one we're recruiting.
I'll save the rest of the kool aid for fall

... Questions on Defense appear to be minimal at worst, Imma big CJP fan, we get the rushing "D" figured out, look out...
As long as we don't get any goofy shite outta the QB position I kinda like where our "O" is too...
If, if, if....
OMG... Imma feelin' all disney in the groin (ain't the blue pills)...

I was surprised at how comfortable Park looked during his first possession. He walked them down the field....up until he overthrew his receiver and got picked.

Hmm. Red team defense was led in tackles by two early enrollee freshmen: Natrez Patrcik - 8 tackles, 1 sack Jonathan Ledbetter - 7 tackles

Okay, enough Disney. Here are some of the problems I saw:
- Good pass rush, but can we stop the run consistently for four quarters? LoCarter can rush the passer but will he be willing to consistently put himself in the middle of a scrum to stop the run? Same with our other pass rushers. I'm hoping Trent Thompson can make an immediate impact here because we do not have a lot of depth of big bodies on the DL. Was hoping Gaillard could make an impact here, but ... no.
- We need some serious immediate help at WR. I hope our WR recruits show up ready to contribute. We will need them (except at TE, we are flush there ).
- Still concerned about all three QBs and our future turnover ratio. Hard to judge in the Spring game (Murray always looked pretty bad on G Day), but get ready for some interceptions this season. We've been spoiled on this stat for awhile. I think we hit interception reality next year.
- Depth at RB. Marshall out. Michel out. I thought I saw Turman limping, but then he ripped off a 52 yarder. Regardless, I do not like our depth at RB right now.
That's about all I can think of right now.

Is fine. Marshall could have played in a game situation. Michel will be full speed by fall, if not before. Turman is a very serviceable 4th option, with Douglas bringing up the rear.

That's something I'm more concerned with Floyd than Carter. I saw Carter blast Douglas a few times today, once driving him backwards and another time flattening him.

Ramsey or Park will inevitably have a 14/35 175 yards 1 TD 3 INT kind of day. Bauta wouldn't do that necessarily but I could see him becoming ultra conservative to the point of being scared almost like Mason was against Florida.

Depth at RB.
Besides pass rush, this should be the strength of the entire team.

If we can split Jordan Davis out wide and throw that quick out, he can run over some cornerbacks. Bauta looked sharp. Two of his short incompletions the receivers weren't even looking for the ball.

I love versatile TEs. They allow a good OC to get really, really creative with formations and play calling.

The new kicker we will bring in punts, kicks FGs, and does kickoffs as well right? Hope he gets a shot because 30yd punts with no one coming after you is not good.

CMR said during the game at once point that they are working on getting some extra distance on kickoffs. Bet he's been thinking about that at least since the GT game.
Posted on 4/13/15 at 8:55 am to FooManChoo
He could increase the average distance immediately by ripping out the pooch and squib kick plays from the playbook.

Jordan Davis made me feel good about the reciever depth, I really think with all the tight ends and the speedster slot recievers we will be fine. Imac seemed like he worked on grabing the ball.
