Who are the starters and who plays in nickel packages?

CB: Cyrus Jones
CB: Tony Brown
FS: Ronnie Harrison
SS: Hootie Jones
Star: Maurice Smith
Money: Jabriel Washington
That is how it looks as of right now. Geno Smith could find his way into that Money role. Though a guy like Hootie may slide down to it in Dime and Jabriel or Geno play Safety in Dime. Lot of options.
Anyway, that is how it seems to look right now. Lot of experience at Corner, not much at Safety, but two young guys with great size and good athleticism.

Hootie will probably play money in dime. Don't know what the base D will look like. I wouldn't count out Eddie Jackson or Johnny Cook at safety quite yet

Me either, but even though it is partly because of Geno's DUI, Ronnie already being with the 1s speaks volumes to how good he already is. Seems like he just gets it.

So no word on Marlon Humphrey finding any solid playing time? Certainly have talent…… I imagine they won't have to hold receivers as long as they did last year, (defensive line another year under the belt) but they as a unit will be worse than last year.

put Hootie at money for Dime packages
EJ at FS, closest comp should be Harrison or Washington
Hootie at SS in base
Maurice seems like a lock for star. Maybe Geno could play there too. Maybe Cyrus too if he gets back healthy soon enough.
CBs: Cyrus, Tony, Sylve, Marlon, in that order.
I think Harrison could take either safety spot. The biggest battle might be between him and EJ.

He has looked good by all accounts, and has added the weight he needed to add. The problem is the two CB spots are likely secured and Mo Smith really fits the mold at Star. We need to try and get Hump on the field, and maybe he will get a drive or two here and there to relieve somebody, though we don't really do that a lot at CB.
He'll play on STs though and probably be a stud. Wouldn't mind seeing him on returns.
2016 will probably see Hump starting next to TB.

So when do they return to old form or do they? Obviously have talent across the board, but last time I was impressed was Texas A&M game. Performance against LSU previous two years has been good too.

I think this is the year. We've brought in more DB talent the last two years than we have in maybe the entire Saban era for any two year period. We've got the experience at Corner that we've missed and we should by all means have the best front on defense in the country. That doesn't mean we will, but we should based on talent and returning experience.

yeah I don't think we will see a whole lot of blitzing from the front seven. the secondary shouldn't be at much risk in most games. I don't think QBs are going to have much time against our defense. They are definitely going to be thinking about getting hit by the endless line of monsters we have coming at them (is Monster's Inc a good nickname for this D?)
In other news, I had a talk with a local HS coach who said that when his school played Carver HS, Jeremy Johnson was a bit timid and didn't like to get hit. Just something to think about going forward. Some Barners seem to think he will be Cam-like with his running ability.

Theoretically I suppose Monster's University could work too, since, well, you know.
I like how Monster's Inc sounds though.

They said they same thing about Trent Richardson in high school if I recall. I suppose we will see if that translates to Johnson, but certainly something you could overcome.

that he was timid? I don't think so. That dude ran over everything but the band in high school. Go watch his tapes and let me know if he looks timid.

Had a friend close to Escambia high school. Apparently he sat out an entire second half of a game after getting hit. It could of been when he was younger in high school though. Was a long time ago, but I do remember hearing that.
Hard to believe considering how much he looked for contact in college.

Is Ronnie Clark expected to play this year? Pretty sure he got hurt during his redshirt year last year but was possibly looking at a little PT at safety?

He got moved to RB/FB last year. He's been participating this spring so he should be good to go by the fall

Wishful
CB: TB/Cyrus
SS: Hootie
FS: Ronnie
Star: Maurice/Geno
Money: EJ
Probable due to the illusion of experience

Hopefully Washington has a better idea of what's going on this season. I just remember him giving up an easy TD to Florida last year because he was lost.
