It's rare for UF to enter the season with such low expectations and, from what I've seen, McElwain hasn't really tried to raise their hopes for 2015. They'll have new schemes on offense and defense. I'm not that familiar with their roster, but possibly a new quarterback, new starting RB, and depth issues at various positions on both sides.

Other than Kentucky and Vanderbilt, every opposing fan base seems to count UF as a likely victory. If that happens, UF will finish 2-6 in the SEC, with losses to UT, Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU, Georgia, and USCe. They'd also probably lose to FSU and finish 4-7 overall.

I'm not making a prediction all that will happen, just wondering if there are good reasons to expect Florida to substantially exceed those expectations. Other than defensive secondary, what are the bright spots? Any new starters who are expected to raise the bar over 2014?

LSU gets to play a down UF while we have to face Tennessee. Scheduling so unfair.

I'd be surprised if they regress. I think they'll surprise a team or two. More than likely I see this being UT and/or UGA again. They'll probably beat Kentucky.

Who do they play from the West besides LSU?

Unfortunately, false.

Ole Miss. It's possible they could beat UGA again. I was concerned about the UF game in 2014 and probably will be again. But, I am optimistic that Georgia's defense will be deeper and more talented, so I don't expect them to be able to run with that kind of success again.

I've read the UT message boards. They'll say, "I'll expect us to beat Florida when I see it", but deep down you guys expect to win that game. Fans are funny that way.

I was hoping you could give us some details to counter the prevailing gloom.

I think we prefer to be under the radar at this point with a new coach. There are plenty of positives, but some issues we have to clean up from the previous staff as well.

8-4 at best. Florida is now the Florida I grew up with. 6-6, 7-5. McElwain was a good OC but UF getting McElwain to be head coach is akin to getting the Zooker as HC. Long days ahead for the "fightin Gators". UF will be lucky to be in the Godaddy.com bowl this year but I suspect no bowl to be honest. I see UF with 5 wins. Possibly 6, a little luck 7.

Oh,...and The SEC is really screwing us with LSU getting UF every year.

You're trying very hard, that's a pretty ridiculous comparison.

Why are you guys so down on McElwain. I know nothing about him, but he did a pretty good job at CSU.

No, McElwain is Charley Pell. Sorry, I wasn't giving him quite the credit he deserves. Outback, Gator and Music city bowls await the arrival of the Gator Nation.

Well I don't know if we will be significantly better but even a shitty UF should have beaten LSU and SoCar, and did beat UT and Uga in 2014. So go ahead and put a W in the column for our game if you want to. Fine by me. Mizzou was our worst game of the year, and we pretty much showed how poorly coached we really were in that one.

We had a new QB last year, and Kelvin was the starting RB in about half the games and we had Oline depth issues for the last 3 years and will be a weak spot again. Dline I am not sure will be much different other than the loss of Fowler, and we have a couple of good ends that should step up, and Bullard will move outside more. So I am expecting about the same as last year. Maybe 6-6 or 7-5.

We still have talent on the roster, so we will see what this staff can glean from that.

Couldn't the same be said about Jimbo, Mullen and any number of others? A lot of good HCs started out as coordinators.
