Hugh Freeze wants to replace spring games with scrimmages against other schools

I'm not a fan of it -- at all," Freeze said. "I'd vote to get rid of [spring games] in a heartbeat, but I don't know that others would feel the same."
If Freeze had his way, the Rebels would scrimmage another school during spring practice, with the money raised going to charity. Or he'd like to hold an open practice, where fans could watch the Rebels go through their normal spring routine.
Really, Freeze would consider just about anything, except having to divide his team into two squads for a glorified scrimmage. Because of injuries, the Rebels currently have only eight scholarship offensive linemen and not nearly enough receivers to stage a game-like scrimmage. Without adequate depth, Freeze said there's really no use in trying to do it.
"We've yet to have a spring where we've been healthy enough to have a game-like experience," Freeze said. "As a coach, you're put in a position where you have to come up with some fictional point system that is equitable, which is nearly impossible. I don't think we'll get as much out of it as we would if we were practicing ones versus ones and twos versus twos."

Too risky for injury, IMO.

I'd like to replace Hugh Freeze with a chubby bunny rabbit.

Can you imagine a Coach being fired after a poor Spring Game performance ?

I'm all about thinking outside of the box.
But I can think of many reasons why Freeze's idea is a horrible one, and one (maybe two?) why it isn't

I've always thought about that but its way too much risk with very little reward. Injuries is one reason. Another is what happens if your team loses? Say goodbye to a pleasant offseason. If your team wins, so what? Its a scrimmage.
I'd rather them be able to have spring games off campus. Go to different parts of the state.

Or a team being penalized for it in polls later on when they possibly just marched their 2nd/3rd stringers out there like NFL teams do in the offseason.

What he doesn't realize is that he's a discount Gus Malzahn.

Before A&M joined the SEC, I wanted LSU and A&M to play a game against each other every spring.

Why not just bring back Freshman teams to play Spring Seasons. That shite would be da bomb.

They can't already do this?

While there are some problems with the idea, it also would be very useful for coaches to have an idea where their team stands. You just never know anything about your team until they play a strong opponent, and even then the opponent could be very overrated (looking at you, South Carolina).

Yeah. Every time he does that he beats LSU, Alabama or State.
