Can fellow Bama fans help get me excited about Avery Johnson?

I mean...the guy can't be worse than Grant, so there's that. But I have an overwhelming feeling that he will be even more of a trainwreck in many ways due to his apparent polarizing nature.

This hire looks like a hail Mary.

How is his "nature" any more polarizing than Nick Saban's?

Fans and players will love him.

for sure

I'd be worried about the recruiting situation, though. Seeing as how he's never done it and he will be competing with Pearl, Jones, Donovan and Cal for kids.

I'm more disappointed than Kate Upton would be after letting me attempt have to have sex with her.

I would imagine he'd be spending a lot of time recruiting Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama.

He's got inroads to the AAU programs, and has plenty of contacts just because of who he is and his background.

Recruiting is my smallest worry about this hire.

Think about it, chief.
How does this board react when Saban loses?
How do you think this board will react if (when) AJ falls on his face?

I keep seeing Bama fans saying this. Is this a fact or just speculation?

I'm excited about the hire. I guess he could fizzle but at least he isn't some other schools worn out sloppy-seconds. Does he have a few negatives? Sure, 100% of coaches that would be hired would have some. Are his advantages more than enough to mitigate the negatives, Abso-friggin-lutely!

If this is what you are worried about, then you need to spend less time on internet message boards. Seriously, why would anyone give a shite about this board's reaction to anything? It's a troll board now that can be mildly entertaining at times.

Better question:

Who gives a shite about how this board reacts and why would you?

Enviable experience in NBA
named coach of the year in NBA
leadership
dynamic personality
knowledge of game
very well known and liked
many recruits will have grown up watching AJ play and on TV coaching

Don't want to help you. If you can't at least be excited with a new hire/beginning, don't really care if you are on board. Bama will win or lose wihtout you.

If he surrounds himself with solid assistants, I think it's a great hire.

would be really cool to a recruit to have a former NBA champ in your living room...

...and I love his charisma.
