Quotes from Admiral Byrd, naval officer/explorer.

"It happens to be an untouched reservoir of natural resources"

"The bottom of the world will be important to us, and our allies"

"In the future I can see a time that it will be very important strategically"

"We've found enough coal within 180 miles of the south pole enough to supply the whole world for quit a while. There's evidence of many other minerals, we're pretty sure there's oil. It was once tropical"

Why is it now off limits, with such cooperation?

We never hear about it, why?

There is supposedly a secret nazi base on antartica, that contained crashed alien crafts, and alien technology. No wonder it's off limits.

No clue. You're missing a 'c' and it bothers me.

It's the opposite of the Arctic.
Ant- (Like antonym, antecedent)
Arctic
-a Latin feminine suffix for names of countries or regions

Eta: damn it I missed your edit. Well there was an X-Files movie that addressed it. Most people hated it but I liked it because X-Files. I've looked into travel and even received a brochure, supposedly 10,000 private citizens, vacationers, travel there by boat per year. 10,000 is also gonna be about your cost in USD. There's also publicized research. Do you have a theory?

Just started looking at something and Antartica is a key part of it. The larger scope is a pretty wild topic, not sure how I feel about it yet.

Did see something about visitors being allowed, but they're obviously not seeing the entire continent, and there's definitely heavy restriction on where you can and can't go.

But it's economically viable to pursue resources from space?

I'd like to see how they're enforcing these restrictions. The deniability is plausible, the continent being so inhospitable and dangerous. Liability, etc

Anyways send me link(s) if you can. Not looking to make any judgment, gonna look into it

When we decide to eventually colonize Mars, Antarctica will be the training ground.

hipgnosis,

What is your theory? Why are you unwilling to share your theory in this thread?

Send me an email if you won't post it here.

(Genro n' Killz)

I'm about to head out of town for the weekend, had to pass out last night so I could function at work today or I would've sent an email.

I have to say this is by far the most outrageous topic I've ever dug into, which makes me apprehensive to share.

I have an idea on how I'm approaching this and I'm gonna stick to it.

I want to compile opinions and thoughts from people on a few things before I go full magma.

I also need to spend more time researching (if looking at youtube and a few interviews is research) before I feel comfortable having a conversation on this topic.

This is kind of a weird moment for me -- I've wanted to discuss so many things with people over the years, finally some decent people want to give something a fair shot and it happens to be the most bizarre thing I've ever looked at, and a topic I know very little about.

You gonna go full magma? Is it weird that I have an E-rection?

I'll admit. I'm hard.

The waiting will only make it worse.

Seriously though, this thread got me to digging around.

First, it has lakes and shite. That's cool.

Second, it's the only continent on earth with no government. Libertarians should love that.

Third, when you are standing on the continent at the South Pole, you are literally upside down in relation to every other human on the face of the earth. Super cool, because gravity and shite.

Interesting that 12 countries have a treaty there, and they all seem to get along relatively speaking. Perhaps they all know something They don't want us to know?

Like the greater good type shite. Legit conspiracy theory stuff considering how hard it is to access that place.

I'm in on this thread.

And who makes restrictions there? As it belongs to no one why can't we just go do as we wish?

In short, the number of tourists wanting to see at least some of Antarctica grew to the point that giant cruise ships were needed.

The International Maritime Organization decided that these big ships and their use of heavy fuel oils posed too much risk for the environment. Also, the incredible ice masses tend to gut very big ships and sink them.

So, cruise ships were banned from Antarctica's waters in 2011. Too dangerous.
