We watched our arch rival take Pearl last year and now we've seen MSU and UT land Howland and Barnes. If we miss the home rum here and end up messing this hire up I might not survive.

I think offering 4 million could attract a pretty quality hire. We don't necessarily have to get a coach that is "available" like Howland and Barnes

I don't think any Bama fan should be expecting Marshall. It is a fun possibility to talk about, and it wouldn't surprise us if it happened, but we shouldn't expect it.

That is my opinion on the ideal mindset.

I never expected him, but it seems we've put a lot of eggs in this basket.

We're getting him. Its just a matter of when, not if.

Now if we somehow blow this...Battle will be run out of town by a lynch mob.

Regardless, we would then be facing another 4-5 years of basketball mediocrity while we languish as the state's third best team behind Auburn and UAB.

I'm just saying... I'm now within a few hours drive if I need to come over with my pitchfork and a torch.

Not to mention the cupboard has gotten rather bare since we started this search. If Marshall turns us down, you've got the Millers (hell, for $4 mil, I'd make Sean tell me no THEN Archie) Ben Jacobson, Michael White and then Steve Prohm. After that, we'll be posting ads on Monster.com and probably getting the same caliber of coach or better than Prohm.

Hopefully, we'll at least start with ladders.com

But I'm curious how many coaches we can help earn a 7 figure raise before we land our guy. Battle is old. He might as well piss off every AD in the country and not settle for mediocrity.

Isn't Shaka Smart still available? If so, that isn't a bad substitute.

Depends really. If GM turns us down to stay at Wichita then we may be screwed because Shaka would take the Texas job most likely. We may be able to hire Shaka if GM goes to Texas, but I don't feel confident about that.

We'd probably be left regretting why we didn't hope on Smart early on when he expressed interest.

Then again, how couldn't we try Marshall?

We can hope that when Battle left this afternoon the were at a point that there was a contract in principle and that Gregg would take everything over with his wife and kids. That a go no go would be decided. That if he was coming he would let CBB know. Then if he was coming he would meet his team and the president and let them know.
This should be over by 12:00 noon tomorrow .

If not I may say frick it .

No thanks on Smart. He wouldn't leave vcu for illinois and he's from the Midwest! Waste of time. Would rather look at chris Jans before him.

Some more gold from the shocker board:

quote:

Recruits do not typically follow coaches - they sign with the school, not the coach. Some recruits follow coaches (Turgeon), but it is not considered ethical

Awe...isn't that a precious outlook on college sports. Especially considering only three guys on their roster are from Kansas. But their dream was to play at Wichita. Yeah, right.

Now on the rant, Richard Pitino is either fishing for a raise or he's plan B. Dear God, from Marshall to Ricky?
