Seems like a great hire. A guy with a good career that will probably make Tennessee his last stop. He will make the tournament and give much needed stability the program.

Pretty sure 3-4 milly gets you better than the bottom of the barrel. Mike is probably packing the suitcase just thinking about it.
Congrats to the Vols though. That's what this thread is about.

If you really think Bama is going to spend $4 million on a basketball coach then I have some ocean front property in Wichita to sell you.

Define "top 10 coach"

fricking Christ! Are you wanting to argue that Marshall is not a top ten coach? And by no means am I saying he is coming to Bama but I think most everyone agrees he is a top ten coach.

Sad what UT athletics has become.

They have a new coach. Tennessee is no UT.

This is a great hire for UT. Well done.

He is as stable a coach as you can ask for in the SEC. He will win at Tenn.

Rick Barnes probably has several ties he can recycle and use while working for Tennessee. But seriously, I'm glad for Rick Barnes and the Volunteers.

Do you're saying Barnes isn't going to Tennessee?

By no known metric is Marshall a top ten coach. Good yes, top ten no.

Coach K
Boeheim
Izzo
Pitino
Calipari
Bo Ryan
Roy Williams
Mark Few
Billy Donovan
Shaka Smart

That's 10 that are better coaches than Marshall... There's probably a few more that are as well. I'm not saying Marshall isn't a good coach, but to say "top 10 no contest" is a big stretch

It's debateable (and this post about the Vols coaching hire is the perfect place to continue the board's obsession with the Bama coaching search in my opinion).

Coach K
Rick Pitino
John Calipari
Billy Donovan
Tom Izzo
Bo Ryan
Sean Miller
Jim Boeheim
Thad Matta
Mark Few
Jay Wright
Roy Williams

There is a dozen off the top of my head that would certainly be in the conversation for top 10 along with Marshall. There are probably at least 5 more I didn't think of immediately.

I have been on UT thinking they are a basketball school, but this is a fantastic hire.

Much better coach and recruiter than Gregg Marshall

he is a mediocre coach, who was able to tap into a talent rich area, with the #1 school in the state.

His teams won in spite of him. Better coach than Marshall??? lol

Since when did you living in a van down by the sewer become ocean front?

Great hire. He is by far the worst Xs and Os coach Tennessee will have ever had. The only bad part of this hire is that UT might finally fire Hart. That would be too bad for the rest of the SEC.
