Gary Parrish: from what I've heard from people close to the situation, Gregg wasn't blown away by Alabama yesterday. My best guess is he is back at Wichita next season. He's not a priority at Texas.
Then his ego is bigger than his brain and he definitely needs to stay at WSU and his current conference.

double your income (or more), give you full control of a bball program in a power 5 conference, and be THE program defining guy (the role Coach K, Dean Smith, and others have played at their schools) didn't impress him? Not buying that.

He may not take the job, but he's considering it, no doubt.

ETA: wait, is this like when Pat Forde's sources were saying that Gregg Marshall told Bama not to waste their time the day before he spent 8 hours with Battle?

bama may not be offering all that the intraweb rumor is saying. They may be, but you know how rumors are.

One reason why I could see Marshall not accepting the offer is that it's too big a risk going to Bama. Sure the potential could be high. But, he could also go to Bama and become an obsolete coach thinking back to his prime at WSU and kicking himself for not staying there.

He could hold out for a much better job in a season or two without nearly as much risk.

"If he isn't overcome with joy to simply be in the same room as Bama officials, then his ego must be too big and we don't want him!"

Irony abounds.

If he takes it, fine. If not, we move on and I am guessing we can find a decent coach.

This is true, but I'm going off a rumor from someone over a week ago when the $3M number first came out. Comments shared from a convo with an agent friend re: Marshall on 3/24

The number of $25M has been out their in nonpublic circles for days before it became internet rumor.

The concern I have is his children. The wife - like most wives - will understand what $4M/year does for their family. The kids likely get most of what they want now and even doubling his salary will not result in their parents giving them everything they want. As a kid you just see that you have to move and they will leave their friends.

Yeah kids are selfish brats.

Show them a picture of BDS on a fall Saturday . Maybe their attitude will change.

Ha! Nah, man. I didn't mean it that way. I just meant that these types of decisions impact kids and they don't always have the maturity to fully process everything (though his son is old enough to get it).

Good luck Bama, but sounds like he is pulling your chain like he did ours. Attention whore that he is.

You're probably right. If that 6 year, 20 mil. rumor holds any water, he may live to regret his decision...or not.

So with the interest in Pitino has Battle moved on from Marshall?

I don't think the "interest in Pitino" is legitimate, and I would imagine if contact has been made - it was done very early on.

We're all still waiting to hear something on Marshall - one way or another.

Thanks! Once again, you're a good source of info who answers questions. A rarity around here.

This is dumb, and in fact, your ego is bigger than your brain.
