Today's episode of "Good Morning Miss Bliss" centered around the difficult decision of a student ( we'll call her "Nikki") objecting to dissecting a frog in science lab.

It occurred to me that we only had to dissect worms and clams when I was in middle school. Might have had something to do with the budget constraints of my humble school, but that's it.

Any of you have to do real up-in-them-guts stuff?

We did a grid and I think maybe a pig fetus as well or something like that. You had to get a note signed and you were allowed to decline to do it though

- The pig fetus was really nasty and thinking about it kind of ruined my breakfast

All we got to do were worms and frogs. They quit the pig fetuses a year or two before I came through the class.

But I grew up on a farm and outdoors and had been dissecting animals for quite a while before that... not scientifically, mind you, but for eatin' or fixin'.

It's not so much the actual dissection but the chemical they store them in that gets me. I can't stand that smell

Wasn't it formaldehyde? Mixed with the flesh of a dead animal, I remember it giving off a kind of thick, sweet, chemically, nasty odor.

As an aside-has anyone ever dipped a cigarette or joint in it and smoked it (less the frogs and pig fetuses)?

We did frogs in 8th grade.

Students were allowed to bring in live frogs for extra credit. One small problem, the frogs had tone killed then. One girl had brought in 10 huge frogs and couldn't quite pith them. They were lumbering around the biology classroom, blood coming out of their necks. She has to take them outside to finish them off. Someone swore she was beating them against the wall of the gym to finish them off. I'm reasonably certain that was the last year students could bring their own frogs.

We may have had to do a shark too, I know there was one other animal other than the pig and frog but can't really remember

We did a frog, but my biology teacher was a taxidermist, so we saw a lot of different animals innerds.

I spent 4 months methodically dissecting a human corpse my first semester of med school.

You haven't lived until you have cut into the bowels of a deceased 98 year old

We did frogs and a pig's eye in middle school. Had a kid pass out when we were doing the pig's eye.

Worm, Sheep's eye, frog, and baby shark. I think all those were in high school.

I've also dissected many a vagina with my penis.

He he, all of the doctors in my family were pretty disappointed when I told them as a kid I had no interest in blood and guts. Couldn't even watch surgery on those PBS health specials.

Dissecting a cadeavar isnt a big deal if you can get past the idea of cutting up a person. There isnt any blood and the guts are pretty stiff and non-gooey
