It depends on exactly what you are talking about. In terms of local coverage and exposure, it would only make sense that if there were no Rams or Cardinals to talk about, the local media would cover more of Mizzou football and baseball. If there were no Rams or Cardinals games to go to, there would probably be a few more people that would go to Mizzou football and baseball games.
Having said that, there is no reason why Mizzou football and baseball and basketball can't be fully supported despite the Rams/Chiefs/Cards/Royals. What needs to be done better for Mizzou is getting the local populous and students to show up. They're the ones that will carry attendance on week day games. Not people from KC and STL. Especially true in baseball.

yea I'm not discounting what you said about the migration factor, it's just not an all or nothing event either though. One of the first pro expansions, the Tampa Bucs, had some good early success and since then expansions in all 4 major pro sports have been attempted with out a lot of success for the most part. Hell the Marlins could barely draw a decent crowd back when they were winning their azz off.
I also understand the "limited funds" theory, you may not be able to spend what you want on being a fan, but that really doesn't stop you from being a fan if that's what you want. So yea, if a season ticket holder at Busch has to set on the hill at Faurot, then that's what they will do.

This really doesn't make sense. There's no reason to think either team has any effect on Tennessee football, which is still significantly more popular than both.
Tennessee sucks because of horrible decisions. Not because the Titans moved in.

This. There are so many options for entertainment here in Florida and pro or college sports are just two of them. We have rabid fans like any other school we also have many that don't live and die with the results of a sporting event.

Good thread OP.
USC became a lot more popular in L.A. partially because of their lack of a pro team.
I think it does impact to some degree, but not all that much. I rarely watch pro anything. I have very little interest. If I didn't have a direct connection with a school team, I probably wouldn't bother watching CFB all that much either.

There's about to be no Rams to talk about or Rams games to go to... Unless you live in Los Angeles

Mizzou had one of the larger Big 8 stadiums.
Mizzou sucks in comparison to many because the administration basically tried to pull the plug on the program for a while and essentially killed a couple decades of growth, fan-wise, stadium-wise, quality-wise.
The whole thing was basically on pause for twenty years. Now that it's back it will grow as the fanbase grows. Everything else is just excuses.

Its about choices. Ohio State is more popular then these teams in general in Ohio. All these teams outside of Browns have attendance issues.
Its a pretty simple economic concept.

I think in this age, you really need the best expertise in media to help build up a fanbase which is why I think Bowtiger might actually get it done, he seems to agree.
With an infusion of new fan support from the KC/STL areas we could get the crowd to 80k on a regular basis, that really is doable, regardless of how well or bad the Chiefs/Cards etc are doing. Believe it!

The post dispatch always gave Mizzou a lot of coverage--Bryan Burwell in particular (RIP), even though they also gave the Illini decent coverage as well . Plus, CoMo is close enough (like NOLA to BR) that you could hit up a Mizzou game on Saturday and be back for kickoff of a Rams game by the next day (though god knows why you'd want to do that).
The only time I could ever see a pro team take away from the legit Mizzou fan base is if the Cardinals were playing a home baseball series in the post season. But other than that I think there would be a pretty small amount of Mizzou fans that would get pried away from a football Saturday in order to see the Cards or Rams.

Its not about being "pried away" its about the casual fan choosing to spend their limited discretionary income.
