Missouri has the two finalists in a Washington Post tournament to determine the best brew in America.

Schlafly's Kölsch and Boulevard's Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale are going head-to-head this weekend in the final round of the newspaper's nationwide Beer Madness tournament.

Sadly, I have to give my vote to KC's Tank 7, great fricking beer. Judges note: I'm anti-Shlafly, have never liked their beers, always a metallic undertone.

In all honesty, both are great brews.

Missouri brews the best beer in the country? This might deserve it's own thread on tRant. Drinking is basically an SEC sport, right?

Schlafly has a really good seasonal. Double Irish Stout. 9percent. Great value as a 6pak. Better hurry though, they stop brewing it tomorrow for the year.

fyi, if you're in St. Louis, this is what I do on Wednesdays.

I'm now in post-graduate studies.

I want to do the beer school at Cicero's, I just can't because of my work schedule.

I've made a habit of going to Civil Life basicall every Sunday. They do a lot of really good stuff. Their American Brown is in a lot of bars and restaurants around town, but they offer so much more. Really cool atmosphere too. Cash only.

I've been to 4 Hands, 6 Row, Alpha, Urban Chesnut (in the Grove), Schlafly, Old Bakery Beer (in Alton, IL, worth the trip), Morgan Street, Square One, and Side Project Cellar. I think that's it. Still want to go to Perrenial, Earthbound Beer, Recess (Edwardsville), and Scratch (Carbondale). Probably a few more I'm missing.

If you like beer, it's a great time to be in Missouri. Tried some good stuff from KC and Columbia over the weekend at 4 Hands for their carnival. Hoping to make a weekend trip to each city sometime soon.

Could this be the best beer brewed in Missouri? I'm going to try some tonight and I'll let you know.

It's not just area Missouri beers that they bring in. Last night was North Coast, out of Ft. Bragg CA. It's most notible is "Old Rasputin" Stout.

In the past 2yrs, I've sampled:
Urban Chestnut, O’Fallon, Tallgrass, Free State (we hissed and booed when they said Lawrence), New Holland, Oskar Blues, Two Brothers, Cathedral Square, Charleville, O’Dells, Great Divide, Rogue, Lagistina, Bells, New Belgium, Top Hat, Crown Valley, Schlafly, Santa Fe, Kirkwood, Widmar, Goose Island, Public House, The Dudes, Delirium, Ferguson, Arcadia Ales. And a few I can't remember.

Still waiting on DeSchutes and Founders.

I'm going on the Beer School "Field Trip" on 4/11. We get on a bus at 9am with a keg of New Holland White Hatter and a keg of Founders TBD (I'm pushing for the Porter). Go to some area breweries for drink, and brewing. Then pour off the bus at 7pm, where I have a ride to take me home.
