I say, let the bidding war commence.

Of course, nothing will happen until Crean resigns from Indiana (or is fired). Indiana fans are in meltdown mode because Crean forced two players off the roster due to over-signing. That perceived unethical behavior in addition to his record will mean he is leaving. Be sure that IU is communicating with Marshall's agent making sure Marshall's waits until Indiana submits its bid before he chooses.

I wouldn't have any problem at all with Crean coming to Bama.

IU is not dumping Crean. There are a LOT of IU fans who want that to happen, but everyone I know here in Indy with even the slightest connection to the school says that he's not going anywhere this year.

Texas is the one who worries be as a competitor for Marshall. I just hope we have a solid plan B (I hear it's Shaka Smart, which would be fine with me if we can get him).

We out-bid Texas before, we can out-bid them again.

Bring it.

True, but we are not in a position to hold out for an elite name. Marshall is probably as good a hire as we can make, and I'm still hopeful but realistic.

It's funny that you think Alabama can be good in basketball. If Bama was once a powerhouse success story, then that's fine to have optimism. The problem is that Alabama has NEVER been known for basketball, and its program has never come close to sniffing any sort of substantial success/

You should try Archie Miller if Marshall doesn't work out with Bama. I think he has a bright future.

And who's to say we can't start being successful with the right hire?

Bammer is bringing up the rear with those schools. It's somewhat close with TN but their fan support/facility is much better.

I am listening to SVP and Rusillo. I didn't catch who they have on, but SVP asked him about Archie Miller possibly going to UT or bama and dude's response was instantly "no chance". His reasoning is that his bro is telling him to hold out for a top end job like he got at Zona. He also thought Shaka would not go to bama or UT because he has already turned down higher perceived jobs for more than twice what he is making at VCU.

ETA He thought Marshall would jump at the Texas job.

during a 5-7 year run in the mid/late 80s, bama was one of the top 2 or 3 schools for nba players ... we were quite well known for basketball ... that's a long time ago, granted, and it's not the staying power of a blueblood, but we've had stretches where we've been very successful, outside of a national title ... that said, marshall would go to IU over bama in a heartbeat ... as he should ...

You're not factoring in Nick Saban heavily enough, IMO

I gotta say, I like the names being thrown around - Marshall/Miller/Shaka/Crean/Barnes......I'd take any of 'em at Bama.
