No got bounced in the second round by USC.

Barnes hasn't done shite without TJ Ford.

It was long past time for him to go. His coaching was abysmal. He did build the Texas program to what it is though.

Hell no. We need to steer clear of Barnes.

Can't make the second weekend with Durant and Augustin? No thanks.

Didn't he make it to the Elite 8 with Durant?
He lost by 20 points in the second round with Durant and DJ augustine. Think about that

Big time underachiever if you consider he had players like Kevin Durant and LeMarcus Alridge

Durant was a freshman if I recall. They were very good, defeated LSU by single digits in Austin. However, you can't count on a freshman led team to get far in the Dance. Nice when it happens but not a travesty when it doesn't.

Ah...that was sandwiched by two elite 8's. Sorry for the confusion on my part.

Texas underperformed and he was paid too much for the that piss poor performance in his coaching.

A Kentucky fan's opinion does not count here. Go back to beating the crap out of everybody.

The dude seems to have beef with his own players a lot lately, the program is stale. With the right hire Texas will be in great shape.

Yep. Barnes is in reality what many accuse Cal of being. A great recruiter that can't coach. Few have done less with more talent. That said if your a program looking to accumulate talent and get to the NCAA consistently but not necessarrily the Final 4 then he would be a very good hire.

Steve Lavin stepped down at St. John's also.

These names aren't considered "elite" guys, but they could do well in the right situation, IMO.

That's almost impossible. I thought he was over-rated at Clemson, and again at Texas. My opinion hasn't changed.

I'm pretty sure that LSU game was in Houston, but that's a small point. Barnes real issue is not getting the most out of his players and being unlikeable in the process. I remember reading an ESPN the magazine article about Daniel Gibson and how he wanted to quit while at Texas because Barnes made him hate basketball so much. Barnes is a guy that works well with a certain type of player, but the best coaches adjust their system for their roster. He has never done that.

I'd take Rick Barnes in a heart beat. How many times did he NOT go to the NCAA tournament while at Texas?

Hell, that's what I'm thinking too.

Overrated is exactly what the Texas program is.

It's not on an elite level and never has been. They've been to one final four since the 1940's. They've never won a national title.

Probably a top 30 program all time, but that's about it. Alabama program prestige isn't too far behind them.
