Logical. Anytime I see a vehicle with a ton of stickers or decals for the school they are a fan of, I can pretty much assume that individual didn't attend.

People who graduate from their favorite school don't feel the need to "prove themselves" via their fanhood, etc...

Interesting. Did you publish your own study? I didn't see that in there.

I would agree with this. I think folks that actually attended the school have an attachment that goes past sports. If you have just an attachment to the sports team then you live and die by their performance.

I haven't published anything. I make logical conclusions based on visual evidence.

Why do people look for this thing that makes them bigger fans than the other? I mean it doesnt make sense that just because you were enrolled into the school at one point that you somehow have stronger sentimental value with your team then the next. I think yall are just full of shite and looking for reasons to make yourself seem like your more than the average fan. You dont have to attend the school to love it. Quit your elitist b.s. To put it out there i will be attending LSU next fall. But still the whole sidewalk term doesnt make a lot of sense and isnt really used by "normal" people.

I think the only people here that will disagree with your post will be Auburn fans.

Everyone knows the only people allowed to cheer for Auburn are Auburn grads, and that Auburn grads are the only people who actually love their University instead of just their football program.

Having a large "sidewalk" fanbase is a great indicator of the overall success of your program.

I would never want to be a program whose largest portion of the fanbase are graduates of the school.

I agree with this. I'm a UGA grad and I've never liked the whole "sidewalk" alum deal. Some great fans never sat foot in a UGA classroom. Many of them could buy and sell the "elitist" grads 10 x over as well.

Luckily, you will never have to be. The poorest and dumbest among us will always be with your team.

I don't have a problem with that. That doesn't reflect poorly on the University of Alabama or its football program.

Sure it does. Roll Tide is used as a meme to call out the stupidest posters on most forums. Want to guess where that association came from?
