What's the difference between Arkansas' and WVU's press?

Arkansas looked far better and kept the score respectable, they also turned UK over a little bit if I remember. Press Virginia looks awful in all phases of the game.

Arkansas matches up better physically, so it's a little harder to break their press.

I believe they also trap less. Trying to trap Ulis is like trying to catch a fly with chopsticks.

For their cute little nickname, UK has played at least two teams this season that pressed better.

Really just think Kentucky is locked in and it isn't WV's day. West Virginia is known for their press. Don't forget LSU also kept it close with Kentucky.

A lot, it appears. Athletically and the style of press/full court man to man.

We made fieldgoals in the 2nd half.

Dumb argument. It's all about matchups in the tourney.

Our press frustrates me because teams can break it so easily. The idea of our press is to annoy the shite out of you, wear you down, and force you to make careless mistakes. I actually like their press better. As someone else said, they don't match up very well physically with Kentucky and Kentucky is very hard to press effectively with their size and ball skills

Arkansas doesn't trap as much. In the few games I watched of WVU I don't remember too much man to man pressure at all. Those games include a beat down at the hands of Baylor, flipping back and fourth between another game and theirs with LSU, and their collapse at Kansas.

1. we're bigger and longer than WVU is

2. to get more tehcnical what WVU is doing is basically front guarding everyone and then when the man gets the ball putting on a true full court man to man trap press. the first person who gets the ball is trapped and they keep another man to try to steal the outlet pass and another at half court with one person back at the rim

Arkansas.. for the most part, does not front guard and traps the inbound pass.. if we can't get a steal out of that we generally back out and get back down court. Every once in a while we'll go to a 2-2-1 zone press to switch it up but we really aren't trying to steal the ball as much as we're trying to speed the game up.

3. We have athletes that are pretty good basketball players at the end of the day they can make basketball plays. Portis, Madden, Qualls, etc. WVU has athletes that aren't really skilled

It works if you have superior athletes, but if you play a team with more athlets then you do and can quickly get the ball past half court it's basically going to be a massacre

I like Arkansas's press becuase it's really the perfect mix between the 2. It's not so hard core where we CANT get back and play defense but at the same time it does speed the game up and cause havoc at times more times than not

Hogs press for pace. WVU press for turnovers.

LSU played against both teams this year and on each team's home court. LSU did not have a great problem with either press. Of course LSU beat Arkie and WVU! :-)

What does that have to do with the difference in the way both teams press? Stick to the OP question and quit being a homer.
