Ol' Houston Nutt was trying to right the ship in Oxford when 1-AA Jacksonville State came calling in early September.

Da vaunted Rebs defense gave up 49 points to JSU. Ole Miss' season "savior", Jeremiah Masoli tried to lead the Rebs to victory but alas, JSU was the better team that day.

How the hell did Nutt manage to not get fired after that season?

I'll never forget how wild the Varsity was that day. LSU had just kicked off but everyone was cheering for JSU and watching the smaller TVs rather than the projector.

He had just had back-to-back 9 win seasons finishing in the top 15.

Jacksonville State was a good D2 team that year tho... didn't MSU lose to Maine during the Croom era? They were much worse than JSU...

At least they've never played 2 FCS teams in the same season (that I know of).

I bet Jacksonville State could have beat a few more power conference teams that season......maybe even Tenn....even though they did lose to Tenn Tech later in the season. The 2010 Jacksonville State team and the 2013 North Dakota State team are the 2 best 1-AA teams I've ever seen. This game proves how bad the team Freeze inherited actually was.
