I think they're considering him. ASU is a decent job, but it's only slightly better than a lateral move at this point. I don't think he'll take it.

I could actually see him taking that job. He's from out that way. Went to college in NM, coached at Nevada, etc.

I honestly don't see Fox retiring in Athens. I'm not saying he'll go to ASU, but I really believe he's here as a stepping stone.

Mark fox would be dumb as shite to take that job but maybe he's tired of getting shite from our ignorant fans as he rebuilds our program

Is it really a stepping stone though? I mean I see most jobs that would take him as a lateral move. I don't think he's going to get a top tier job unless schools are convinced his recruiting struggles are due to to the school instead of him. He's been here much longer than I would have expected if it was simply a stepping stone

Arizona State is deftinetly a lateral move and not a step up. It would surprise me if he took that job giving the success he has had here the past few seasons. He would be better off trying to build this program up instead of starting new over there.

I wouldn't be surprised if he left. If you look at his resume before coming to Athens all of his previous stops were in the Mid West/West which included stops at Washington, Kansas State, Nevada, and also played in New Mexico.

Why can Villinova and Wichata State and Gonzaga recruit better basketball players? What resources do they have that we do not?

It's not popular, but we really don't need Fox to leave right now. One of our biggest issues as a program has been a lack of any sort of consistency. Do I think Fox will win us a title? No, I do not. But the overlap between coaches that could do that here and coaches that would come here if Fox were fired is probably non-existent. Despite his faults, Fox is actually a pretty decent coach. His issue has been recruiting. However, he is starting to turn that around. We'll have a fairly solid roster next year, and the year after we're bringing in 2 four star guys. A john calipari isn't going to come to UGA and make us nationally relevant in one year, this job is a process.

Let's also keep in mind that UGA has 12 tourney appearcanes in our entire history, 2 of which have been under fox in the last 5 years. One of the other 12 was about the most miraculous, fluky tourney entrance you can imagine. So while he's not elite, he's actually pretty good. And I have no reason to think he won't continue to have us be good. UGA basketball has always been historically a 1 step forward, 3 steps back type of program. Never was that more evident after the harrick debacle. Losing fox right now would put us back several steps yet again.

I've probably said this a few times, but most athletes want to go places where they are loved and the kings of campus. That isn't the case right now in Athens. We rarely sell out home games vs. places like Gonzaga, Wichita St. and Nova that love basketball.

Gonzaga plays at the MAC and it holds 6,000
Nova plays at the Pavilion and it holds 6,500
Wichita State plays at Charles Koch Center and it holds over 10,500

They sell out consistently bc they don't have football programs that are elite. They are like Duke and UNC. And Kentucky. And Kansas.

We sell out Gym Dogs easier than basketball games though. There just aren't a whole lot of basketball fans that care about it, and you're right that football is a contributing factor. That being said, we could be more like Tennessee, Notre Dame, Texas, OU, or Ohio St. That will start by winning games. The crowds this year were much better because we won games. Winning games will bring fans to the games and it will help the program grow.

I like Fox. Plenty of big football schools have big basketball programs.

We have a solid basketball cosch who recruited NBA talent at other schools with arguably less resources.

Why don't they come here?

Real question is how are the Florida's and Ohio State's doing both?
