So how long do we give Sumlin, since his teams have actually regressed the last 2 years?
Sumlin has improved recruiting and completely revamped our image into a nationally relevant team. Let's face it, we haven't mattered this much since the 90's. I'd give Sumlin 2 more solid years since he has shown what he can do with a decent defense (year 1). It'll take time, but I think our future looks bright.
Kennedy on the other hand... that fool. He took a tournament team and has kept it out of the tournament in a league that is considered weak. I don't expect to beat Kentucky, but I do expect a damn tournament bid. He has finally started recruiting well, but that doesn't matter since he can only coach Kennedy Specials

Cheap? Who exactly said that? Didn't we give him the $ to lure Cyprien away from Memphis only to have him throw his butt under a bus?
We may be paying BK 1 Milli, but that contract was created with Big12 money. Had he gotten to the tournament in year 3, he'd probably be making anywhere between 1.5-17 million. Let's not make BK the victim here because he is getting paid a year what most of us won't make in 10.
:frick: Kennedy

The move to the SEC and JFF made us relevant. How has Sumlin's recruiting improved the team? They were # 5 with Sherman's recruits, not Sumlin's.
I'm not suggesting that Sumlin be replaced. ...just pointing out that I think y'all are taking your frustration out on Kennedy because the BB team didn't magically make up for a disappointing FB season.

Our schedule is more difficult next season.
If you assume 9-3 at best in the regular season, you analyze our conference opponents:
Ole Miss: at least 1 loss
Kentucky: 2 losses
Georgia: at least 1 loss
Missouri: at least 1 win
LSU: split
Arkansas: split at best
Tennessee: 1-2 wins
Missouri: 1-2 wins
Mississippi State: split
Vanderbilt: 1 win
South Carolina: 1 win
Alabama: 1-2 losses
Auburn: split at best
That's 10-8 at best, giving a 19-11 record.

Kennedy has one NIT appearance in 4 years.
4 years without an NCAA appearance in a major conference is grounds for firing.
Anthony Grant had a better tenure at Alabama his last four years and he was fired.

Davis, Hogg, Thomas, and Gilder say we blow that "best" out of the water.

And what happens if we don't? We've been hearing from the pumpers for the past 2-3 years how we are going to be so much more improved than the year before, and yet here we are after year 4 and we have accomplished nothing

don't even go there man. You created a damn response thread - really two if we're being honest - in tArk. Just because your neighbor shits on his lawn doesn't mean it's okay for you to do the same.

See, this is the mindset and mentality that needs to be eradicated. The NIT is not improvement. The NIT is not a successful season. This year, just like BK's previous 3, was a failure. Plain and simple

I'm in the fire Kennedy boat but damn y'all make some daft arguments to try to support it.
Now that Ray has been fired at MSU, Kennedy is the lowest paid coach in the SEC. He would be the lowest paid coach in the Big 12. I think there are like two P5 coaches now making less than him. We definitely went cheap as we've always done. And, no, our assistants are not particularly well compensated
On average Big 12 coaches make significantly more than SEC coaches. And our program undoubtedly made more money in the Big 12 because it is a better hoops conference. NCAA payout is based upon success.

Trying to equate Sumlin and Kennedy is completely asinine.
Over the last two coaches prior to Sumlin (including the last four of Slocum)
-2 seasons of greater than 7 wins
-0 bowl wins (4 appearances)
-4 losing seasons
-Ended the season ranked once
In the two coaches prior to Kennedy:
-7 postseason appearances
-6 NCAA tournament appearances
-9 postseason wins
-7 seasons of 21+ wins
-0 seasons with more than 10 losses

The best case scenario this year was 12-6. Didn't exactly blow that out of the water.

To all of you who said we're suffering in basketball because we got cheap and took Billy Kennedy instead of a better, more expensive option so that we could funnel more money into football
I don't know who you are talking to, but if its me I don't think we hired BK to save up money for the stadium or Chavis or something. It was a different time, Bill went cheap because the right hire (Buzz) had a huge buyout. Bill was arrogant he could find another diamond in the rough like the previous hire, and he wasn't going to pay for the sure bet.
That decision killed our momentum (Buzz would have gotten to the tournament by now) and nothing the AD or BK can do will change that. Now that the program Billy created is gone I don't see the utility in trying to make up lost time going forward. Etch the tombstone and move on, pinch the pennies and be happy when he gets to the second round next year.
It was this moment, the Buzz failure, when I lost faith in Bill. Hyman has my support for now because we faced the same moment when USC came for Sumlin and he paid up.
As far as football expectations I expect way more out of our football program than I did five years ago. I expect to be in the playoff race this year (more likely given our history) or next. I never expected that (or the old standard BCS bowls) out of a Sherm program.

Sumlin has definitely done enough to earns some pressure free time. We're far ahead of pre-2012 expectations in football and a lot of his value has been off the field (embracing & promoting the SEC move, recruiting, pushing facilities). However, the state of the program after the 2011 season was probably a little undervalued in the eyes of our fans.
The point I was trying to make is that Kennedy wasn't necessarily handed the keys to a Ferrari. He's the lowest paid coach in the SEC and we're showing steady improvement. If we don't collapse the last few games of the season, hell, maybe even if we managed to pull out that Kentucky game, we're in the NCAA tournament and everyone is hunky dory.
If we want a better coach, someone who's more of a proven winner and who's going to contribute some intangibles that build up excitement around the program, then we better have the candidate and the money ready. Otherwise, we're jumping from steady, albeit slow, improvement and solid recruiting, all bottom dollar, to the unknown.

no worries. I take 99% of your posts as schtick. But looking at the board this morning and seeing 5 of the top 6 threads on the front page about Kennedy highly annoyed me
