Mitchell Johnson, 13,and Andrew Golden, 11,shoot their classmates and teachers in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Golden, the younger of the two boys, asked to be excused from his class, pulled a fire alarm and then ran to join Johnson in a wooded area 100 yards away from the school’s gym. As the students streamed out of the building, Johnson and Golden opened fire and killed four students and a teacher. Ten other children were wounded.

Jesus Christ. 11 fricking years old. I have a half brother that will make 11 this month, obviously not all kids develop the same but holy frick I can't even imagine what his family must have gone through. That's still a fricking child...just...how?

Not to diminish the families who lost their innocent children that day, obviously just as if not more tragic.

Are there details on what was going on in that kids life? Abuse, mental illness, etc? I can Google just didn't know if anyone here knows facts off the top of your head

Yeah, and if I remember correctly, Mitchell has been in and out of jail since he was released from juvenile hall and Andrew changed his name and lives in the Batesville Area.

Mitchell Johnson got popped in NWA for marijuana and some other stuff several years back. He's in prison currently.

Well, this part just makes everything more sickening ...

quote:

November 14, 2008, Johnson, now 24 years old, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the theft charge and misdemeanor possession charges. Although Johnson could have faced up to 30 years, the sentence of 12 years was chosen because Johnson technically had no criminal record from the Jonesboro shooting.[

Evidently, looking at the dates, he was eligible for parole from state in 2011, but had to serve all of the 4 yrs. in federal prison after that, which is pretty standard - usually no early release from federal - so he should be getting out soon, if I'm reading that correctly? (If he got paroled from state in '11) He should be in his early 30s now. Article says he was 24 in 2008.

I remember when that happened, & when I saw the younger boy, I could not believe he could do anything this horrendous. He looked like a baby. I remember him crying all the time in the court room when the news would show clips, but the older one, Johnson, had a cold, calloused, no emotion expression much of the time. He had zero remorse. I knew he would be a career criminal, if not career serial killer, since he would get out of prison at an early age because of the fricked up law at the time. ... Hopefully, that pos bastard will do something, besides murdering someone, to get put away for much longer when he gets out ... again. Unbelievable.

Eta - His attempt to get a carry permit for his firearm I assume he got illegally, & lying on the application before he went back to prison is extremely disturbing.

Eta 2 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PIO!! ... Damn, you're just having all sorts of excitement lately.

Dating/married the widow of the teacher shortly after the killings. Then there was the domestic abuse and such. Quite the story.

She still work for KAIT8?

I remember that day pretty well, was on spring break and at my aunts house in West Memphis. After breakfast my friend and I were riding bikes up and down the side walks of the neighborhood. When it was around lunch time we went into her house, sat down on the couch and seen the news. Was really disturbing. I was like 11 or 12.

My HS used to play Westside in all sports. Don't know if they still do.

I guess I missed this part of the story, but I wasn't in Arky at that time. ... So, this news anchor, Diana Davis, married the widower, Mitchell Wright, of the school teacher, Shannon Wright, who was killed in the shootings? Then the anchor wife allegedly broke the husband, Mitchell's, nose in a fight over her disciplining children too harshly in a restaurant? ... Damn, she sounds like a lovely person. ... Are they still married? And is she still an anchor?

I remember this well. My aunt was a middle-school teacher in Jonesboro at the time, that was scary stuff. I'm not surprised the older one became a career criminal. I just don't understand what would make kids do crap like that.

Happy birthday, Pio!!
