Sampson is a sleazy coach with a history of major NCAA violations. He went to Houston because he lacked better options.

His violations were impermissible phone calls. I wouldn't call that sleazy. It was probably a stupid move, because no kid is going to commit based upon an extra phone call.

Probably could have waited for a better job, but why not head to houston in the mean time?

How many know that what got him suspended by the NCAA for is no longer a violation?

I always thought of Sampson as a great coach @ Oklahoma. So does he get the benefit of the doubt in year one @ Houston going 4-14 and 13-19 in the rough and tumble American? Just a thought...

Problem is he did it at 2 desperate places. So indiana got hit hard. He needs to show he can win while following the rules before a P5 program goes after him.

I've got to say, this notion that KA intentionally tanked the season that keeps popping up is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

And that's one of the reason the NCAA stomped on him.

If by victory you mean contending for a conference title and a run in the tourney, I agree. If you are saying to double digit wins, I respectfully disagree.

There were 5 games we could have won this year that we lost by less than 6 points. That would have giving us 14 wins and close to a .500 record which I think would have been great. We did not have one player get hot in any of those games. If we could have gotten someone hot like Gant or Wright did in the Florida game( I cannot remember which one got hot) we would have won those games.

Well see who is coming back and hope he adds some bigs and more talent period. KA didn't tank anything. Look at last seasons roster.

Not just that but I read an article that also said that the rules he was punished for violating were subsequently taken off the books, so it is ok to do whatever it was Sampson did. If true, kinda sucks for Sampson really.

I think it depends on how you look at it. I don't think that KA lost games solely for the purpose of losing games. I do think KA sacrificed the season for some things that he felt were for the greater good. Setting a tone. I don't know what led to all of the suspensions, but I would bet that in 5 years, after the tone is already set, those same actions would not lead to suspensions. So, in that sense, KA knew he was putting the team in a position where it was less likely to succeed but for what he felt was a greater good.

And I'm sure there were 5 wins that we could have easily have lost and ended up with 3 wins. I do agree, 14 would have been great though and I do think someone could have coached us to at least 10.

Eric Gordon has talked about the drug issues on that team too.

Then-coach Kelvin Sampson tried to stop the drug use, Gordon said, but Sampson "was just so focused on basketball and winning and everything."

I think the only way Mizzou wins more than 10 games last year would of been for KA to focus on offense from day 1. Increase the pace and run run run.
There is a reason that Arkansas was the only good college team that Mizzou was able to play with. Make 2 free throws and Mizzou gets to 10 wins.
A focus on offense also probably gets Beidshied to stay.

Why? The difference in draft picks is only minimal since we were going to be awful anyways, what's the reasoning???

It's more about what he has been really good at as a coach. That offense, yet he spent a good deal of the offseason working on defense.

I know he didn't really tank, just put the long term program goals over winning this season.

The reward wasn't a #1 draft pick. It was a change in culture. I don't think KA WANTED to lose. I think he was willing to lose though. In order to bring about a culture change instead of getting a #1 draft pick. At least that's what I hope. Because the alternative is that KA and each of the players are really just that bad.

So the #1 pick was just a bonus?
