How do you feel that Howland is now head coach at Mississippi State?

3 straight Final Fours at UCLA.
Pretty damn impressive. Could've been head coach at Mizzou just like Self could've been head coach at Mizzou. Hell, Marshall could've been head coach at Mizzou.
All passed over for someone with little to no D-I experience.
FWIW, I think Kim Anderson is the guy to get the job done at Mizzou. He was a home run hire...we just don't realize it yet.

Marshall wasn't passed over. He didn't want to coach at Mizzou.

There were reasons Howland got passed over by Mizzou, Auburn, Tennessee, etc. I could see one AD whiffing on that but that's just 3 in our conference alone. There had to be a reason why no one was willing to go there.
Right?
Right?

Let's see:
OPTION A
399-208 (.657); 3 20 win seasons in 5 years with a low minor team, including an NIT and NCAA appearance; 3 post season appearances out of 4 with a lower end high major team, including 2 Sweet 16's; 7 NCAA appearances out of 10 years for a high major team, including back to back to back Final 4's with one of those being a runner up year.
versus
OPTION B
9-23(.281)
Clearly you go with Option B.

Coaches in the SEC now:
Calipari
Donovan
Stallings
Howland
Mike Anderson
Frank Martin
Pearl
They're starting to stack up some good coaches in here with that SEC cash.

And it will be interesting to see who Bama adds.
Donovan
Cal
KA
Pearl
Howland
MA
Stallings
Martin
Kennedy
Kennedy
Fox
Jones
Tyndall
Bama's hire???? Will be interesting to see which grouping their hire falls into.
Really, the only one I don't like of that group is Jones. Heck of a recruiter but man he gets nothing out of his players. If he ever makes the right hire of an actual basketball coach, LSU could be really good in the coming years. Tyndall the jury is still out on.

And you know that how? I thought we weren't willing to pay him enough to force his decision to leave Wichita State.
Why didn't he want to coach at Mizzou? Children still in high school?

From what I heard (3rd hand), the money wasn't necessarily the issue. Timing was.

Considering none of us were on the search committee or involved in any way, we can only go by the facts.
Fact. Haith asked for extension and did not get it. He took the job at Tulsa.
Fact. Gregg Marshall has stated he loved Wichita and wanted his kids to graduate HS there.
Fact. Kim Anderson did not have any D1 head coaching experience.
Everything else is just speculation.
I would speculate that Marshall will be looking to make his move to a high major program either this year or next year depending on when Baker and Van Fleet leave.

If Marshall wants to leave WSU he can get any job he wants. If the rumors are to be believed we offered him north of 3M.
As for Howland, that's who I wanted but I understand why Alden passed.

Anderson sucks.
Also with the P5 giving out more scholarship money it might be time to jump to a bigger pond for him (Marshall of course).

None of us knows what happened during our coaching search.....maybe no one wanted to come to here.......maybe all of them thought they had us over a barrel and priced themselves out of the market, maybe KA was truly the best hire. At this point it doesn't matter; KA is where he wants to be, he's our coach and it' s not BB season so can we just overreact to some Spring FB rumors like we're supposed to?

I heard a spring FB rumor that they put together 5 guys and beat the basketball team in a pick up game. GP figured it was a good confidence building exercise.

I don't know how anyone can objectively say this.

Probably the 5 shortest guys on the field

Which is why I made it clear that it is only a personal belief.

Okay...
What I meant by objectively is once you remove homerism or emotion from your thought process, how could one call this a homerun hire.

It's been closer to a foul out on a bunt so far

At this point you can't but in fairness you can't say KA is a bad coach or in over his head. There were just too many things going against this team for them to be even remotely successful this year (defining success is very subjective). Anytime you rebuild something, a sports team, a house or something else, most of time you're better off burning it to the ground & start over from scratch especially when you have a boat load of really young guys. Next year we'll have a better gauge on KA and these guys.
