And thinking of what could have been a very different season for us. Not that Marshall could have these results with the current level of talent at Mizzou, but damn. I wish he was our coach.

You and me both semo. I don't know whether to or to .
I hope KA gets the job done but it will never change the fact I would have preferred to have landed Marshall.

Exactly. I wish that man was our coach. Hope the door isn't closed. And I hope that the new AD is a closer when it comes to attracting and landing top coaching talent. Something tells me Mizzou will have a few head coaching positions open up in the next year.

Ok you two. Just go get drunk and be happy they had Self in several meltdowns today and ku fans were crying. I'm glad he's with WSU. We were never close to getting him. But it is a nice dream.

ku and anything associated with can go frick themselves in the corner with a chainsaw.

Who knows how it went down.
Money solves lots of problems though

You can only make that statement if you know that we were persuing Marshall and were willing to put out that kind of money.
Based on their hiring of Kim fricking Anderson I would say that you could greatly argue either of those points.

The thing you should take from the WSU/ku game is that experience counts more than talent which is what I tried to express to you earlier this year. Give KA some time to build experience upperclassmen before jumping to conclusions.

Marshall outcoached Bill Self handily, which doesn't happen very often (as much as it pained me to type that).
He cited his son finishing high school in interviews about not leaving Wichita. Not necessarily for mizzou, but in general.
But yeah, he does it with 2 and 3 star recruits. Not "talent" like we have.

This is partially nonsense and partially bad reasoning. Ron Baker and VanVleet are elite basketball talents. And Baker was huge in the Final Four run two years ago as a sophomore.
There's no one who is saying experience doesn't matter.

Ron Baker was a walk on. So keep ripping Van Leer and Puryear before you've even seen them play

Anyone judging KA's first year is saying experience doesn't matter.

I've seen them both play. And I'm not "ripping them." It's not personal. They just don't appear to be high D1 level talent.
And despite Baker walking on, he was an all-state basketball player and led his team to the state championship.
Puryear looked like the 3rd best player on his team Saturday. VanLeer couldn't get his team out of districts.

Ridiculous again. I can judge his first year and realize it's not the final word on his stint here at Missouri. His first year was awful even taking into account his lack of experience on the team. Watching the last game in the SEC regular season and the tourney and telling me progress was made is ridiculous.
Is that going to be the final word on his career at Mizzou? No. Is it part of his career at Mizzou? Of course it is.
It is funny that you're calling for experience and had no problem with us hiring a coach who had no D1 experience in years.

Really?
Because Kentucky is poised to be the best team of all time, and yet that experience rule you just made up doesn't seem to apply to them...?
Talent please!

You make a great point. It takes new D1 coaches a long time to adjust the taller baskets, further free throw lines, etc. also, the rounder basketballs are a huge gamechanger for coaches. coaches just don't get that without D1 experience.

You need to look at UK's roster again. They have plenty of experience on this year's team. Are they the most experienced? No. But when Cal had the most talented team in the country but no experience, they failed to make the tournament.

808bass is pretty much spot on. Sure, experience helps, but it definitely is not the defining factor of a teams regular season. For every Wisconsin or Wichita St with experience, there is a Kentucky or Duke with freshman. Pick your poison. But with all 4 of those teams, you have some of the best coaches in college basketball. Either way, there is no reason why we should have had the worst season in school history with our roster.
As for Ron Baker, he was the Otto Porter of kansas. Played at a tiny school (scott city has like 500 people total). That doesn't attract a lot of suitors. He was 6'3" coming out of HS, which isn't an attractive prospect for a kid from a tiny school. He wasn't even ranked by ESPN.
My point is, I think we have those type of guys in Missouri. That is on the coaching staff to find them.
KA doesn't get a pass for this season. I'm not going to generalize based on your opinion of KA, but a "worst season in school history" is a pretty terrible coaching job. Oregon State had a winning record with 7 walk-ons. You can't tell me coaching isn't critical to winning.

Baker also grew two inches from his junior to his senior year which helps explain the lack of scouting attention.
