I have a feeling he was already "hired" before we fired Ray.

I just read an article from a few weeks ago where Holland regreted not taking one of the jobs he was offered last year. He wasn't going to make the same mistake again.

Also Sharp, who is your sauce on this? Is this something we can take to the bank? I'm unreasonably excited.

Robbie on 247 posted that he was hearing presser on Tuesday. That was my best source.

I'd have to imagine there could be an outside shot that Howland is stroking us to use as leverage with another coaching deal, but that seems highly unlikely.

From 247.

quote:

I'm hearing Howland will be the hire. But also a big piece of the puzzle is Korey McCray. He was an assistant at LSU but resigned this past Thursday. He has a really good relationship with Malik and was recruiting him for LSU. But the connection of dots for this entire picture is McCray was an assistant for Howland at UCLA, so hiring Howland and keeping G. Brooks as one assistant and bringing on McCray along with Malik would be huge

Yes, I was told that this hire would probably put MSU in the driver's seat for Newman

Yeah I've heard Ray having no experience developing guards was the only thing holding him back. Bringing in the guy who developed Russell Westbrook, among a long list of others, should be money in the bank.

ONE THING TO NOTE: Howland is used to taking over teams in chaos. He had a losing record for his first year at all 3 stops before MSU. So... be patient.

Howland's already got the program making moves...

"Adam Zagoria ?@AdamZagoria 20m20 minutes ago Manhattan, NY
JUCO F @RayKasongo32 will tentatively visit Mississippi State, LSU, Tennessee and UNLV in April, per source. Korey McCray hire could help"

Background: 6'9" PF. Oak Hill Prep grad. Oregon Commit. Didn't make grades. JUCO. Had offers from UConn, UCLA, Oregon, etc. McCray crooted him at LSU.

The Size/Athleticism we're lacking on the post.

I think Fred Thomas will be a much improved player under Howland.

His Wiki page:

quote:

On March 23, 2015, Howland was named to the position of head coach at Mississippi State University. Almost instantaneously, the University of Ole Miss announced plans to add 2 additional feet to their football jumbo-tron. [14]

Several big things already developing:

1. There are some rumors that Adidas helped make this happen. See what the Kentucky guy had to say about Adidas and their relationship with top recruits:

quote:

TJ Walker a rivals guy from KY said: Howland to MSU will be fun. But know how UK has lost some adidas guys to adidas schools? MSU will now be a player for top adidas kids.

a rebel responds @TWalkerRivals @NealMcCready So State is now a contender for Kentucky recruits!? Now that's funny stuff! #OverreactionMonday

TJ responds: @CajunRebel10 @NealMcCready UK & MSU will be on some short lists for 5* players. Does that mean they go to MSU? No. But will be considered

2. Howland has already reached out to Malik and his dad.
