How close were we to going to the championship game that year? Looking at it we were 11 points from playing for it all that year. Just think if we would have had the foresight to invest in facilities etc at that time. We were so close to breaking through.

We were only a dry field the day after Thanksgiving away.

I was at the FSU game at the Meadowlands to start the season. FSU was really really good. But we matched them physically all night long. 1998 was a fine fine team with athletes all over the field. But our offense was not quite good enough to make them an elite team.

Texas let their field grow before the game and then watered the crap out of it the night before the game. Seems I recall our equipment guys forgot to pack longer cleats as well.

I just looked through our season summaries starting in 1998 on wikipedia because of this thread. I had forgotten how dark of times the 2000s were.

I was at that game. It hadn't rained in a long time and the sip field was not only really long it was drenched and as the game wore on it became a real mess. Texas had RW and long cleats and you could see our guys falling down all day. We had something like -27 yards rushing. If you have the stomach for it look at the play RW broke the record. Realize this was in the 1st quarter of what should have been a dry field but you can see guys losing their balance and divot marks all over the field. I was close to the field and you could see water flying up from cleats.

Our bad for not packing long cleats but no doubt the sips cheated.

Like several of y'all have said there was no reason to pack long cleats. It had been a dry November. Lesson learned I hope. Pack like a woman. Pack everything.

I remember the grass being really long at Mississippi State in 2012. The game they celebrated The Ice Bowl (TM). No doubt to slow down Johnny Football. It wasn't long enough.

That was such a great game. We were sitting down in the end zone and it was a great time. I still have vivid memories of Christian Rodriguez nailing their QB and causing that fumble. That defense was so good.

Christian Rodriguez

I haven't heard that name in a while. I remember one of Christian's, recruiting visits. My roommate and I went out with Dat (and entourage) and Christian. Last thing I remember was being at the Salty Dog. I know that a couple of us, were carried out. I don't remember the rest of that night. Hell, I don't remember most of the late 90's. What ever happened to Christian? Did he go on to play big boy ball? I remember he was a top prospect.

I didn't know for sure ahead of time if y'all were going to be there. But it was great to see. Talked to a bunch of BQ's before the game.
I sat all alone in the midst of a bunch of fsu fans. One little punk made things pretty miserable. Closest I ever came to punching someone at a game. Good thing I didn't, cause it prob wouldn't have turned out well for me.

PS: almost tore my rotator cuff on that Christian Rodriguez play. Actually thought I did at the time.

When that play happened I was sure we would win. But we just couldn't get it done
