So when does the 30 for 30 "I hate Tim Tebow" come out? I just finished watching the Christian Laettner 30 for 30 and I can see some similarities between the two.

Both stayed in school 4 years and were successful very early. This gave fans years to hate them and for their hate to grow.

Both were disliked for being on great teams that won.

Laettner was kind of dirty and for that era he was disliked for it. Tebow had a strong faith in God and for that era he was disliked for it.

Both won 2 national championship games and lost one big game.

Tebow won the Heisman Trophy and Laettner was on the first Dream Team

Laettner did not live up to the hype in the pros. Tebow was a bust in the pros.

LSU fans had chants against both players that were funny but offensive.

Honestly it's not a bad comparison. Tebow's story would have to dabble a lot in religion and how it fueled his popularity/hate, I don't think ESPN would be comfortable with that.

Why? They love controversy.

Heck if they get the right editorial mix they might even get a Christian group or two to boycott it, which would mean a guaranteed rating success.

I really don't think ESPN would mind. ESPN likes to mix some politics into sports anyway. The whole Michael Sam thing was really political. During the "I hate Laettner" they were ok with pushing White Privilege.

Yeah but I don't really see them fanning the flames on religious debate like they do with other things like racism. Granted I don't watch as much ESPN programming as I used to.

Him being an ESPN employees throws a wrench into it as well.

They won't want to get into it, or take a side, but they would love for some controversy. That is their business model.

If anything the documentary format, plus the fact he is an employee, is perfect.

In the documentary format they can find some random person to say the controversial line, which is better than someone affiliated with ESPN saying it. Then if it blows up they can act like it wasn't them, even though they ran that clip in every preview for the show.

Him being an employee means that they can't be too bad for giving a soapbox for the line, because hey they hired the guy. Plus that gives them a clear extinguisher if the fire gets too hot "that is our employee's personal business."

They need to get it on it. A Science Guy or someone like that would be happy to give the "Jesus is bullshite" line to get the party started.

It actually is a really good comparison. I would not be surprised if they do it later on.

Tebow did not have a moment of the magnitude of Laettner hitting that shot against UK. I think Tebow's halftime motivation pep talk vs OU or his promise speech would be used. But they pale in comparison to that great shot.

Problem is they like the stoke those fires themselves with mouthpieces like Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Inevitably the Tebow documentary will be a subject of debate on First Take, and I have a hard time seeing ESPN going to one of them and telling them to insinuate whatever controversial stance they can glean from Tebow and his religious following.

You really don't have to do this to get the ball rolling.

How about......Tebow had a different belief than some people. He had a strong faith in Jesus. His lifestyle was different and he was not afraid to show it during interviews or on TV. And because he was different, he was disliked and despised by others.

There, that was easy. Then on to other reasons why people hated him.

Yes. Tim's faith in Jesus is so rare in the SEC. He was a true maverick. So brave
