Will this be the year that someone puts Ole Miss out of their misery & hires AK?

In football if our coaches sniff success they immediately get poached. Yet AK has turned a bottom feeder into a perennial winner. What does he have to do to get the call?

Be careful what you ask for. Not saying we can't get another decent to good coach, but the devil you know is better than the one you dont.

Just a ?, no agenda. How many home games did you go to? I rarely missed one and the atmosphere sucked. I can't remember one game outside of the Florida home game where the students filled their allotment.

There were season ticket holders beside me (very good seats), and they showed up like 3 times all year.

All that to say, while I even get frustrated with our style of play from time to time, our support absolutely sucks and it's no guarantee AK's replacement is an upgrade. In fact, it's quite possible Ole Miss basketball sees a dip if they replace AK with Auburn's stock rising with Pearl, LSU getting national recruits, and Bama getting a new coach.

We have some stability. And for the Michael White crowd, he has zero tournament appearances and his play seems to be very similar to AK's.

The last thing we need to do is let AK go and risk hiring a huge downgrade like Rick Ray.

There's 40,000 people in Lafayette County. Don't expect a Tuesday night game against Scrub U to be a sell out.

UAB almost got him from us. I don't think he'll leave since he is finally getting his new arena. I know I've talked a lot of shite about him and I can't stand him at times, but right now I don't want anyone else. Do I think we could get Michael White if need be? Absolutely. Do I think we should go get him if we can right now? No. Kennedy deserves a year in the new arena he has basically built.

Ole Miss and Memphis could do a coach swap after the season, and I could have a fresh coach to hate.

I'm all for keeping AK but this is a ridiculous argument:

We would upgrade in baseball w/out Bianco, and we would upgrade in basketball w/out Kennedy. Those were absolutely necessary upgrades regardless of who the coach was/is.

Evans - 6 seasons - 2 NCAA - 51% overall, 45% conference
Barnes - 8 seasons - 3 NCAA - 56% overall, , 39% conference
Kennedy - 9 seasons - 2 NCAA - 63% overall, , 52% conference

Looking at the stats, he's done a damn good job but it's not just some amazing feat. I think we could do the same with another average to above-average coach.

Regardless, he's not going anywhere and I'm glad... for a few years at least. If he can't get us back in the tourney in 2-3 years, then I think we can start calling for his head again .

How many home games did AK lose?

Seriously why hasn't anyone wanted him if he such a damn good coach?

Uh before Bianco our baseball program was equally as bad as our basketball program. The only reason we are upgrading basketball and upgraded baseball is because we were winning and there was a demand for it. Had we been shitty and not hired Bianco, we would still have the hill in the baseball stadium. Not that that's a bad thing. The hill was

Just for fun I took out the best and worst season records for each coach.

Evans - 50.45% overall, 43.75% conference
Barnes - 54.35% overall, 36.46% conference
Kennedy - 62.98% overall, 50.86% conference

20 win seasons:

Evans: 2 (6 years)
Barnes: 3 (8 years)
Kennedy: 7 (9 years)

15+ win seasons:

Evans: 2 (6 years)
Barnes: 4 (8 years)
Kennedy: 9 (9 years)

There is a big difference in Kennedy and the other two. Maybe what Kennedy has done is not an amazing feat on a national level, but it is at Ole Miss.

Those stats are interesting. Previous coach's 20-win seasons equaled NCAA appearances. Are we playing worse schedules now than before? Has OM just been getting shafted on selection day? Looks like a 20-win season doesn't mean what it did in the past.

I wouldn't wish Pastner on my worst enemy. He CANNOT coach. There is not one single player that has gotten better under him. In fact, they have, almost to a man, gotten worse. But hey... he's an awfully nice guy.

I would rather Kennedy than Pastner any day. I doubt he leaves with the new arena coming

Now what would be reealllyyy intriguing is if Bjork has ties with Howland from his UCLA days. now that would be an instant upgrade

There's plenty of people in Desoto and Lee County within an hour drive.

I do get the 6 o'clock midweek tipoffs.

When did I act like he's the second coming of Coach K?

I just basically said the support sucks, the arena is the worst Power 5 arena in the country, and there's no guarantee that the replacement we get (especially if it's White) will be any better than him.

As the first poster said, be careful what you wish for. State thought they were going to upgrade after Stans. Instead, they're in year three as a bottom-feeder with their best player being a recruit that committed to Stans first and wouldn't be in Starkville otherwise.

Yeah, only Mike Bianco could win at Ole Miss. Its shocking how LSU, MSU, Ark, Vandy, UK, USC, UGA, UF manage to win baseball games in the south where there is no fan support or interest.

You're absolutely correct here. Even drilling down to 15 win seasons though, it shows how much better Kennedy is than the other two. As much as we all hate being on the bubble basically every year, with Barnes we weren't even on the bubble most years.
