So SC and CCU are about to square off in the regular season in baseball.

This reminded me of the 2010 Super Regional that was hosted by the Chants and the controversy surrounding it. If I'm not mistaken, as soon as CCU won their regional (in controversial fashion) vs CoC, they started selling Super tickets immediately... but they could only be purchased at the venue CCU was hosting in. I remember being pretty pissed off about it because it was clearly a way to try to get as many CCU fans in there and keep the SC fans out. I can't necessarily blame them because Clemson fans took over Myrtle Beach a couple years prior. (Plenty of Gamecock fans showed up anyway)

Anyway, when that happened news came out about the bad relationship between the two schools since CCU broke away from the SC system. Before then, I had never noticed we had never played CCU in football and they were the one in-state team that never seemed to show up on the basketball and baseball schedules.

But now, we play them in football a couple of years ago, we have them on for baseball. So with all the tl;dr aside here is what I'm asking..

1) What exactly happened when CCU broke away?
2) What made these two schools have an apparent rapprochement after that Super regional?

Oh man oh man ... it is too late at night to start that story. It was bitter politics within the USC school system at the time and it sort of started, or was only made more bitter, when Bobby Richardson ended-up coaching there.

I remember when they were a two-year school and known as the CCJC "Trojans" and were basically forced to become the Chanticleers maybe in the early 70s or so. Maybe late 60s. Around there somewhere. The split actually happened in the early 90s and it was bitter at the time.

I'll be back tomorrow night with more rest and less alcohol in me to try to break it down as I remember it happening.
