Just taking a stab at what potential candidates might take into account when they consider the Alabama Basketball job. Feel free to add or criticize.

PROS
Money & Resources that are almost unmatched in college athletics
One of the top brands in college athletics
Passionate Fanbase
Solid Tradition
(Relatively) Low Expectations
Less of a spotlight due to Football = Less Pressure
Top Level Practice & Training facilities
Potential to come into a conference where currently only 1 team is consistently winning.
Previous head coach was given plenty of time, a lot of slack, and a lot of money.

CONS
Alabama Basketball hasn't been relevant in quite some time.
No matter what is accomplished, the program will be second fiddle to football
Track record of coaches flaming out
Fanbase that won't care about basketball until football season is over
Arena that is in the bottom tier of the SEC
Uncertainty at the administrative level
Expectation to keep away form gray areas that could potentially jeopardize the football program (i.e. NCAA issues)
A conference where many promising coaches have struggled to turn around programs.
Competing with Pearl for the small amount of oxygen reserved in this state for basketaball

A Few Points To Consider:
- Is our problem a fundamental issue or simply a string of bad decisions? Our last 4 coaching searches probably started out with great expectations but ultimately led to hiring two assistants, a young alum, and a mid-major coach. All of which were fired. Without going into a full autopsy of each coach, are we limited to only attracting unproven or young prospects? Would things have worked out differently if we had hired more proven/established coaches?
- Grant had a steller reputation coming into UA. It was universally acknowleged that he was a rising star. Could a potential hire look at Grants flame out at UA combined with Gottfreid's mild success at NC State as an indicator of Alabama Basketball being a hopeless venture?

The biggest cons IMO are that Coleman is mediocre at best and the instate talent pool is not great.

if you can get 2 of the best in state yearly and grab at least one stud from say Ga I think it will work. They have put a ton of money into Coleman and I doubt they demo it.

Rollbamaroll has some names that have been thrown around in one concise article.

if they are not going to demo it they need to either pump another 50mil into to make it comparable, or leave it standing for the other sports and ceremonies and build a basketball only venue with top notch facilites

Not disagreeing but womens BB does not play there. Volleyball does not play in the main gym. I think there is a small gym underneath. Only thing they share the main floor with is the womens gym. and they are on Friday nights.

As attractive as the number on the check.

UA is neither good nor bad. There's nothing to prevent a coach from coming or attract one. It's all about money.

Volleyball plays at Foster.

As far as a coach is concerned, Coleman is fine. The locker rooms, practice facility, offices, etc. are top notch. The team spends very little time actually on our main court. All the gripes about Coleman are just things that fans have to deal with (not saying the gripes aren't legitimate). If you put an exciting product on the floor, the atmosphere is great and it gets loud as shite.

Honestly, they can save the money and simply change the student seating to the lower level. Coleman isn't good at all but if they would simply change this, it would be much different.

The NIT games are much better to attend due to the general admission

I think the better question is, what jobs are coming open this year?

Miller makes $450k at Dayton. We can obviously make that right but who will we be competing with?

The fact that Stansbury was supposedly on the list of coaches we are looking at lets me know we don't really want to win.

The NIT games would be better to attend, except everyone is out of town for spring break this week

Right now, not very attractive. We haven't been relevant in awhile, facilities are meh, and we will always be a football school. That being said money talks, if we are willing to break the bank and make some promises on facilities....everyone has their price and Bama CAN be a good job.

Biggest jobs open at the moment besides ours are DePaul, George Mason and Nevada. The rest are smaller schools or less relevant schools. Those are the biggest names with basketball cache'.

Knock on wood....I think we are very fortunate that we're really not competing with some big names for coaches. Landing a great coach is all about timing. Not sure if Battle took that into consideration or not. Imagine if we had kept Grant another year and we had to compete with Indiana, Texas, and/or other top tier programs.

New to the board... Roll Tide!

Good list. We will have a solid core coming back next season and shouldn't need a complete roster overhaul. That is a PRO. We need a coach to install an offense that will put the players in position to score with better looks at the basket.
