The basic plan is to create three separate levels -- bench seating close to the field, lower club level and upper club level -- along with the possibility of a rooftop terrace area atop the structure. The university also will have the option of removing some bench seats at field level to create a "field club" area similar to what Mississippi State built last year.

I do like the look of that. I wouldn't want them to do what they did at MSU though. I don't like how that looks.

What would this do to overall capacity? Looks like it won't increase it by too much. Maybe get us to around 90k? I still think there needs to be some type of screen over there.

The project won't be cheap. Low-end estimates begin around $70 million with that number rising north of $120 million if the field-club seating becomes a reality and the aluminum bench seating is upgraded to chair-back seating. The re-worked end zone would hold approximately 9,500 patrons in all, which means it wouldn't yield a meaningful rise in stadium capacity.

I missed this when I initially read the article but there appears to be no added capicity so I would assume they would make up for it in the cost of tickets?

I'm not an economics expert so maybe someone can chime in with the value of making such an addition? I agree that it looks nice but gosh that's a lot of money to spend

It would affect some 9700 seats and I'd imagine it would bump them up from Young Alumni/Season Tickets to some upgrade over TUF.

Here is the breakdown for 1000, 1500,2000 per ticket in contributions per year contribution amount + years to recoup cost of 120mil$

1000x - $9,700,000 - 12.5 years
1500x - $14,550,000 - 8.25 years
2000x - $19,400,000 - 6.2 years

That is assuming no annual contribution for any of those 9700 seats.

Yea, more club level seating, which cost more. I would bet it probably increases capacity by 2500 or so, which wouldn't be meaningful as the article says, but would be a small increase.

Scholarship seating is now $3000 per seat. There are about 2000 scholarship donors that sit in the stands, and I was told that the starting overall contribution to get into club seating is about $50K.

I am no longer a scholarship donor. Too much money for what you get. Three, maybe four good games a year. No chair backs or cupholders. "Free" food sucks.

My grandparents sit in the scholarship seating and their seats have backs and cup holders iirc

That looks very Missisippi state ish. I think they should bowl in the north endzone. They'll do that eventually anyway.

There's not enough demand to make that a successful project.

Ok, so it seems that the seats should pay for themselves and will improve the gameday experience. Jay Jacobs good decision for the month is done (j/k )

In regards to bowling in the stadium, it seems like the current trend is to build stadiums smaller but with enhanced amenities. I think the current plan meets that demand moreso than expansion would.

Because we sell out the big games in good years but not in bad. And we rarely sell out a lesser game.

Attendance is down NCAA wide. A lot of people are starting to enjoy the TV experience more than the live experience (why? I don't know). So expanding seating by a significant amount doesn't look like it will happen. Things could change though if Malzahn goes on a run of championships.

I don't care about capacity. I just care about making the baddest stadium possible.

I posted a graph here some time ago with our attendance numbers over the past 10 seasons. If you go buy percentage of games sold out then there's no evidence at all to expand.. Much less expand to 100,000 which a bowl around the north endzone would provide.

1. Cost of tickets and travel
2. Big screen HDTV with a 50 yard line leather seat.
3. Cheaper booze
4. No cops
5. better food in game
6. Ability to turn the shite off if its a blow out.

Because as much as I love to go to Auburn games(I still make it a few each year), watching the game on an HD flatscreen as well as being able to watch multiple games throughout the day, all while being steps from my kitchen and bathroom, is really hard to beat.

I also have a toddler and will have another soon, so that makes it that much harder, not to mention getting back to Atlanta at like 3 in the morning after night games, because I'd rather just drive all the way back than get an overpriced shitty hotel 30 miles away.

Don't get me wrong, the experience in Jordan-Hare still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, but the cost and convenience of staying at home has started to outweigh that.
